(ASI) is a joint venture of CH2M HILL and ADA Technologies, Inc. formed to commercialize an advanced sorbent for the capture of mercury from combustion flue gas streams. We are seeking an experienced “industry” executive to lead the organization from its development stage to an operating company with sales and revenues. This dynamic individual will take on a variety of responsibilities including finalizing the manufacturing technology for Amended Silicates™ sorbent, identifying and securing a commercial manufacturing contractor, and building a sales and marketing function for the company. The CEO will also work with parent companies via the Board of Directors as well as with a major investor now being sought to provide capital to complete the transition to an operating company.  Amended Silicates™ sorbent was discovered by ADA Technologies (ADA), and has been in development for the past five years.  ADA and CH2M HILL have collaborated to advance the Amended Silicates™ technology for economic production of the sorbent material. Trials have been conducted at three operating power plants with commercial quantities of sorbent material made with different processes and by different vendors. The focus of planned development activities will address improved performance of the sorbent material and changes to the manufacturing process to reduce costs and improve reliability for commercial-scale production. On the sales front, the company must develop a sales and marketing strategy, sales literature, target client list, and external promotional activities. A Director of Sales and a Product Development Manager are now also being recruited to lead these activities for ASI; these new team members will report directly to the CEO Technical staffs of ADA and CH2M HILL will provide technical support to the development process.  This individual has a reputation as an experienced leader in directing the rapid growth associated with advancing technology companies from development mode to production and sales. A seasoned senior executive, he/she is an excellent communicator who utilizes a variety of methods depending upon the situation. This person is comfortable working directly with technical people and understands the application of basic scientific principles to the solution of industrial and commercial problems. An established network of contacts in the electric utility industry is a definite plus.  An entrepreneurial bent and experience in leading a technical startup would serve this person well. A major responsibility in the first 6 months will be making the key hires required to put in place an organization focused on manufacturing as well as sales and marketing for Amended Silicates™ sorbent.  The successful candidate will have a strong business management background with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate business or accounting discipline. Work experience should include familiarity with manufacture of commodity products, and the development and management of relationships with strategic partners. Ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors is imperative.  The selected candidate must be a well-organized individual with the ability to simultaneously grasp the big picture and work at a detail level to create a new operating company. This dynamic leader is a life-long learner, always open to new ideas and new ways of doing things. The successful candidate is an established leader who can inspire and motivate a team to achieve significant growth in a start-up environment. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Corporate Leadership1. Prepare and refine a plan to advance Amended Silicates, Inc. from the development state to an operating company selling novel mercury sorbents into the utility marketplace. 2. Drive the process of transitioning Amended Silicates, Inc. from a start-up phase company to an operating company with growing revenues and profits. 3. Lead the implementation of the corporate strategy to successfully execute the transition described above, executing according to plan, maintaining the schedule, and working with available resources. 4. Identify and hire key staff as the need arises. 5. Manage the Amended Silicates, Inc. team to meet corporate technical development, manufacturing, revenue, and profitability targets. 6. Work with the Board of Directors to meet and exceed corporate goals. Product Development - work with the ASL Product Development Manager to achieve the following objectives1. Prepare and refine a plan to improve the performance of Amended Silicates™ sorbent and to manufacture it in commercial quantities at market-competitive cost. 2. Direct advancement of ASI’s core sorbent technology and coordinate with contractors or partners to demonstrate the production of commercial quantities of Amended Silicates™ sorbent at market-competitive costs. 3. Manage contracts and agreements with individual organizations working on elements of the corporate plan to advance the Amended Silicates™ sorbent technology. Monitor contract tasks and approve contractor invoices. Interact with contractor technical management to assure that SOWs are appropriate and timely. 4. Manage the overall cost and schedule of the technology development activities to stay on-plan and within budget. 5. Communicate with the ASI Board of Managers and General Manager to provide routine updates on progress of the technical development effort as compared to the development plan. 6. Maintain and expand ASI’s intellectual property in the composition and manufacture of Amended Silicates sorbent. 7. Build relationships with potential manufacturing contractors or partners to advance the composition and production technology for Amended Silicates™ sorbent. 8. Troubleshoot problems with manufacturing and/or field demonstrations to identify and implement improvements that validate the use of Amended Silicates™ sorbent.  Business Development - work with the ASL Director of Sales and Marketing to achieve the following objectives1. Develop a sales and marketing strategy for Amended Silicates’ launch into the commercial marketplace.2. Identify and develop opportunities for full-scale trials of Amended Silicates™ sorbent at coal-fired generating plants of potential customers. Capture and communicate results to interested parties. 3. Advance the visibility and brand recognition of Amended Silicates™ at conferences and meetings attended by potential utility clients.4. Arrange and complete direct sales calls with interested utilities. 5. Prepare and print sales and marketing materials for Amended Silicates™ sorbent.6. Upgrade and maintain the Amended Silicates, Inc. website.Other Tasks1.
