JOB DESCRIPTION
The New York City Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP), Bureau of Water Supply is seeking an experienced Chief, Wastewater Treatment / Administrative Engineer, M-3.  

The selected candidate will work under the executive direction of the Director of Operations for the Bureau of Water Supply and will serve as Chief, Wastewater Treatment Operations.  This position requires the exercising of considerable independent judgment and decision-making in performing managerial, administrative, professional and technical work of significant complexity requiring knowledge, skills, and abilities consistent with civil engineering, and extensive knowledge in related areas.  Candidate will oversee the operation and maintenance of the division's seven (7) wastewater treatment plants to ensure the protection of New York City's Catskill, Delaware and Croton water supply systems and to meet the requirements of the Supreme Court Decrees of 1931 & 1954.  Candidate will ensure wastewater treatment plants comply with all applicable State and Federal regulations.  Candidate will serve as executive agent and oversee the preparation of all Discharge Monitoring Reports in addition to being the primary liaison with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.  Candidate will oversee the design review for all treatment plant upgrades, improvements and sewer extensions.  Candidate will develop uniform maintenance tracking procedures for all wastewater treatment plants.  Candidate will supervise the preparation of plans and specifications for maintenance, construction contracts and labor and materials orders.  Candidate will ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety and environmental regulations within the Wastewater Treatment group.  Candidate will oversee all procurement and budgeting for WWTPs and EH&S.  Candidate will continually review and update WWTP emergency response procedures.  Candidate will advise the Operations Director on all Wastewater and EH&S issues.  Candidate will ensure the Operations Director is aware of significant events or issues in a timely matter.  Candidate will assist and advise the Operations Chief on engineering, wastewater and management issues.  This position will be responsible for approximately 75 staff employees.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid New York State Professional Engineer License is required.  In addition, candidate must have six (6) years of full-time paid experience in civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical or air pollution control engineering work, at least two (2)  years shall have been as an Administrative Engineer.
