Cognos Developer

Project Time & Cost, Inc., an Atlanta based, international cost and forensic engineering firm is currently seeking a Cognos Developer for our Atlanta, GA Office.

 

The purpose of this position is to create Cognos Reports for different business groups throughout the organization.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 Develop ad-hoc queries and Cognos reports using various data sources

Interview end-users and gather requirements

Translate requirements into sensible solutions

Document reporting requirements and specifications

Develop and maintain report development procedures

Prepare estimates for enhancements and new reports

Assess design alternatives and advantages/disadvantages under different options

Perform unit, integration, performance and system testing for new releases of Cognos

Train and help transition team members from legacy systems to Cognos

Help with migrating existing reports from Excel to Cognos 8

Modify existing reports and write new reports and templates, as needed

Participate in development activities to migrate from legacy systems to Cognos

Assist other programmers in the development of complex reports

Debug and resolve issues whenever necessary

Other duties as assigned.

· Proficiency in SQL programming and stored procedures

 

· Strong understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling

 

· Ability to translate business needs into business requirements and specifications

 

· Strong analytic and problem solving abilities

 

· Strong writing skills are a must for this position

 Very strong communications and writing skills

Ability to interview individuals and ascertain specific processes for relevant material

Ability to synthesize, model complex data and write concise reports

Individual should have knowledge of: Cognos BI, Framework Manager, Data Mart Creation, Multidimensional Cubes, Adobe Acrobat 5.0, Adobe Illustrator 10, Basic HTML, IIS, MS-Office, MS-Visio, SQL Server, Oracle DB.



Education and/or Experience:

 

· Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university (preferably in Computer Science or Management Information Systems); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

· Minimum 3 years experience with Cognos Impromptu

 

· Minimum 3 years of data warehouse/data mart experience

 

· Cognos lifecycle implementation experience preferred

 

· Experience with Deltek Cognos (preferably Cognos 8) a plus

 

· Experience creating dashboards, reporting portals and graphing reporting

 

· Experience diagnosing problems and troubleshooting production issues

 

· Previous experience training and mentoring others on developing reports
