The requirements for this job include knowledge, skill, and/or ability as listed below: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; and 6 or more years related project management experience or equivalent combination of training and experience. TECHNICAL SKILLS Ability to efficiently operate vehicles utilizing a standard gear shift. Ability to efficiently operate appropriate required software in a windows-based environment. LANGUAGE SKILLS Read, analyze, and interpret trade publications, technical procedures, job specifications, and blueprints. Write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Draft contractual documents for job bidding. Effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, managers, customers, and the general public. Fill out necessary internal paperwork. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Calculate various quantities such as percentage, area, circumference, and volume. Apply concepts of algebra and geometry. Accurate use of a tape measure and precision measuring tools. Utilize and apply engineering principles involving use of materials and processes. REASONING ABILITY Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Needs to be able to operate a computer and perform office related tasks. Also required to do climbing occasionally at the client site. WORK ENVIRONMENT In performance of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. The noise level is moderate in its office setting, but occasionally exposed to higher levels in manufacturing in house and off-site environments. Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness. Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions. Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. Interfaces with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates. Organizes and manages a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data is utilized. Analyzes completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies. Provides improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs. Visit customer sites as required; measure and sketch jobs, consult with customer or customer contractor which may require out of town and overnight travel. Identifies cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts. Analyze work orders, specifications, contracts and blueprints to determine information such as material to be used, level of precision required, type of operations, and sequence of operations required. Prepare customer quotes for material and labor to design, fabricate, install and/or refurbish commercial metal jobs. Assist other departments with quotes. Use engineering software and spreadsheets to analyze problems, make estimates and give quotations. Works with vendors to source, price, and schedule material delivery for projects. Responsible for safe and proper use of company vehicles, following all applicable S.C. policies, and state, federal laws. Effectively operate job-specific software, in addition to standard S.C. software, in a windows-based environment.
