Design Engineer - Advanced Refrigeration

Summary:

Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in product development, R&D and manufacturing.  Define, research and develop next generation refrigeration technologies for small-scale commercial kitchen applications.  The ability to extract technologies from other industries and apply them to this industry to create innovative, low maintenance, high performance designs.  Experience with sheet metal forming techniques, tolerances and engineering economics.  Strong mechanical aptitude, mathematical skills  and electrical competence is also needed.  Ability to read and apply regulatory rules as specified in Underwriters Lab (UL), National Food Safety (NSF), Ansul and NCE.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·Effectively lead design innovation with new ideas and state of the art technology (provide engineering drawings in support of sales objectives)

·Develops and directs future applications of technology to maintain the department to the current standards for engineering.

·Work with other engineering locations worldwide (international) to streamline processes and develop standardized product development methodology

·Identify, develop and manage the outsourcing of engineering projects for North America.

·Leads the Value Engineering activity to reduce manufacturing costs. 

 

 

Education/Experience Required (Ideal Candidate)

·Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

·Electrical/Refrigeration license. 

·Previous leadership responsibilities in positions of a technical engineering or R&D environment with preference given to product development. 

·Recent thermodynamics/heat transfer/manufacturing experience.

 

 

Communication Ability (Reading and Writing)

·Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. 

·Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies.

·Ability to communicate exceptionally verbally and in writing. 

 

 

Math Ability:

·Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

 

 

 Reasoning Ability:

·Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

·Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

 

Technology Skills:

·Individual should have intermediate knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software; design software and manufacturing software.
