SUMMARYResponsible for the concept, design and creation of manufacturing tools and fixtures by preparing working layouts, models, and drawings of tool and fixture assemblies or components from specifications, prior layouts, well-defined sketches, models or verbal instructions.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Follows all applicable ISO-9001 procedures relating to the duties of the Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering Department and any associated manufacturing operation.Follows all applicable Departmental and Shop safety rules.Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, shop data, and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost.Maintains the Design Work Request (DWR) log for fixture and tool requests. Summarizes work backlogs, estimates time, material, and labor cost to complete jobs. Prioritizes work requests and reviews backlog priority with the Tool Design Engineer.Performs cost estimates, receives quotations, and enters requisitions for the procurement of designed equipment.Responsible for the qualification and 'approval for use in production' of all new or repaired fixture configurations.Troubleshoots production problems.Coordinates and works in conjunction with other workers designing, laying out, or detailing projects.Gathers data in response to questions from engineers, manufacturing personnel, or others. Prepares reports or spreadsheets to present data when required.Draws preliminary sketches and prepares layout and detail drawing.Coordinates with suppliers and contractors for the procurement and completion of above projects.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis job has no supervisory responsibilities. Must have two years experience in design and manufacture of assembly fixturing and chip cutting manufacturing fixtures.LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.MATEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSN/ACOMPUTER SKILLSAbility to effectively utilize word processing, spreadsheet, and project management software and to navigate and use other custom applications software in a MS Windows environment. Must be capable in the use of 2-D and 3-D CAD systems with a minimum of three years experience in design and detailing through the use of CAD.
