Director, Engineer & Design - Communications & Signals Dept.

Unique opportunity for seasoned engineer experienced in running a Communications section within a Maintenance and Construction environment. As a senior staff member you will be overseeing the management of the various communications systems employed throughout the Authority including fiber optic, wireless microwave, and a large copper cable plant supporting the various wayside voice, data, and SCADA systems.
Your skills and knowledge should be honed in the following areas of additional responsibilities:Creating, reviewing and approving all detailed vital and non-vital application programs, technical studies, cost estimates and other communication related documentation used by the Communications and Signals section of the EM&C Division.Preparing specifications for new materials and equipment and upgrading specifications. Provide technical support to solve maintenance and construction problems as they arise in the fieldConducting studies and investigations for SEPTA Communications facilities. Developing/ implementing standards and practices in Communications design, maintenance and construction for use by in-house and third party forces.Reviewing of Communications contract documents prepared by outside parties (city, state and SEPTA consultants) to ensure accuracy and compatibility with SEPTA standards.Overseeing and approving the construction of various in-house and third party Communications projects as well as overseeing the placing in operational service all new Communications systems facilities. Overseeing work assignments and supervising the activities of Communications personnel in performing testing, inspection, maintenance, and construction of all communications equipment and systems. Providing technical coordination of all Communications improvement projects amongst the various divisions.Providing short and long term planning for the improvement of all Communication facilities including cost estimates, conceptual and preliminary engineering, operational analysis and/or impact studies as required.
Please have a bachelor’s (four year) degree in the field of Electrical or Communications Engineering plus a minimum of ten (10) years relevant progressive experience inclusive of design, maintenance, and construction within the Communication field (i.e. radio communication, microwave and landline, fiber optic and copper cable plant, and construction of same. Familiar with industry design standard requirements.
A Registered professional engineer (PE) license is preferred.
Extensive experience in computer applications within field is necessary.
Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to deal effectively with a wide range of professional, supervisory and management staff.
