Director of Hardlines, Consumer Products
Bureau Veritas Consumer Product Services, Inc. Objectives:
Technical Support and Governance
Lead person for the Hardlines Business Line in the Americas. Provides all technical support required to profitably grow the global Hardlines business with Region Retailers. Functional responsibility for ensuring compliance to Hardlines methods, directives, correlations, etc.
Sales Support
Assist the Sales effort to win new business by participating in all phases of the sales process, representing the Hardlines Business Line, including Technical Presentations, proposal development, pricing, etc. Lead the implementation of the Hardlines component of new business to ensure a seamless start-up
Market Analysis
Continuously research and monitor the regional market for new market opportunities. Develop proposals for entering new niches, acquisitions, etc. to grow the business generated in the region. Lead development process of new products or areas.
Operations
Oversee and manage Hardlines testing capabilities and capacities in the region. Lead the effort to install new capabilities and capacity. Management of other activities or labs in the operation. Working with Lab Managers/Directors, ensure people working in the Hardlines labs are adequately trained and certified.
Engineering Services
Support and development of Engineering Services. Lead effort to further develop and strengthen products in ES portfolio. Work towards global roll out.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Technical Support and GovernanceWork with global counterparts in the Hardlines Business Line in the development and implementation of enhanced test methods and test packages to meet Client expectations such as furniture, ISTA, Flammability.
Ensures the integrity and consistency of the test methods and protocols that are in use in Americas Hardlines testing - ensuring consistency and compliance to Business Line technical governance requirements.
Assist, as required, in dealing with technical issues and problems, whether internal, among sites, or client based on a daily basis leading analysis and providing solutions as appropriate.
Monitors changes in region regulations and works with others in the Service Line to update or develop new methods to ensure compliance
Actively participate in regional and global Standard and Regulatory bodies
Actively participate in regional and global Hardlines industry associations
Development of technical bulletins relating to Hardlines topics in the region
Sales SupportAssist the Sales effort to win new business by participating in all phases of the sales process, representing the Hardline Business Line, including Technical Presentations, proposal development, pricing, etc.

Market AnalysisProvide market intelligence on the Hardline Testing market in the Americas including market share and profitability analysis. Make recommendations to increase share and product mix.
Analyze local markets and identify new opportunities that support the mission of the Hardline Business Line.
Monitor changes in regulations/compliance requirements and provide assessments and recommendations on future courses of action for the Division and our clients
OperationsParticipates as a full member of the management team that oversees the Global Hardline Business Line as well as a part of the Americas Operations staff. Responsible, as a member of the management teams, for the performance of Americas HardlinesTesting, with the Lab Managers/Directors, in all areas of performance including Quality, Service, Cost, and Profitability.
· Responsible for improving Client Satisfaction of Hardline Business Line clients – working with existing systems to monitor, measure, and improve issues related to client satisfaction with Americas locations.
· Manages the regional Capability and Capacity matrix for Hardline testing. Oversees the creation of subcontracting relationships among the labs and with outside laboratories including setting of turnaround time among the labs
Responsible to ensure Hardline testing in the Americas is consistent with Division and Business Line policies, procedures and methods throughout the region
Engineering Services
· Lead Engineering Services group in developing and expanding service offering of products in the supply chain outside of testing, testing and auditing.
· Engage key accounts and targeted mid-level accounts on development of services to ensure that BV CPS’ products are in-line with industry needs.
· Define and utilize a process to systematically develop a product from concept to commercialization3
Skills:General knowledge of testing, auditing and technical consulting concepts, processes, and equipment and the demonstrated ability to implement themMarketing – ability to study and assess markets and identify opportunities and threatsClient interaction skills: Demonstrated ability to work with customers, determine their requirements, secure additional business, define and assist in solving problems, and generally ensure their total satisfaction with BVProblem solving skills including the ability to lead groups of diverse people through a problem solving processThe ability to organize and prioritize daily activities and workload in a resource constrained environmentEffective oral and written communications skills including the ability to deliver presentations to in-house and client/vendor audiencesStrong skills as a team leader and ability to work well with peers.

Education/Experience:Minimum of a 4 Engineering or Technology DegreeMBA or equivalent business experience desirable, demonstrated progressive P&L experienceTen (10) years of experience in Engineering including progressive management positionsFive (5) years of experience in a management position that includes operations leadership experience in quality assurance/product testing/consumer product manufacturing environmentFive (5) years of experience in consumer products businessesDemonstrated experience in dealing directly with customers
