EHS Manager

MINTEQ/Specialty Minerals, divisions of Minerals Technologies, a globally recognized, manufacturing leader seeks motivated individual to manage our site environmental, health and safety functions.  Located in CT’s northwest corner, away from the metropolitan traffic and congestion, we are a 24/7 operation offering a casual atmosphere in a rural setting. Our diversified site includes quarry/crushing operations, furnace tending, and metallurgical wire manufacturing. 



The EHS Manager is responsible for the administration and continuous improvement of the facilities’ safety/health programs and all facility environmental activities.  Administers all environmental permitting and related documentation.  Serves as the primary liaison with all corporate, insurance and government regulatory agencies for environmental, health and safety related issues.  Keeps management informed of proposed and current changes to EHS laws and regulatory requirements.  Maintains employee health and safety records and files, ensures compliance with all reporting requirements and manages plant risk management activities.  Coordinates and/or conducts required EHS training including mandatory MSHA/OSHA, first aid and CPR training.  Manages workers compensation activities including interface with medical providers, employees and insurance carriers to ensure appropriate return to work activities.  Initiates, analyzes and provides solutions and coordination/implementation of environmental, health and safety improvements and corrections.  Assists other plants within MTI as required.  Performs other duties assigned.

 

Incumbent must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or other related discipline.  Up to five (5) years related experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment preferred.  Computer skills required include spreadsheet, database and word processing software on PC based systems.  Incumbent must have a well developed business understanding, working knowledge of customer requirements and demonstrate a balance between analytical and creative thinking.  Incumbent must also be a self-starter who seeks responsibility and is able to work with minimal direction.  Incumbent must have demonstrated a willingness to challenge conventional ideas, be flexible, innovative, and be able to function effectively in a team environment.  Incumbent must be proficient in personal computers and related databases.  Computer skills required include knowledge of spreadsheets; database and word processing software on PC based systems.  Incumbent must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.  Incumbent must possess strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate and effectively motivate others to promote a positive work atmosphere.
