ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER III

SUMMARY: Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of environmental engineering to the completion of challenging assignments. Performs civil and environmental projects in accordance with UST, RCRA, CERCLA, and other appropriate state and federal regulations. Will perform project tasks involving site investigation, engineering design, construction, operation and maintenance.    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as determined appropriate by the supervisor based on level of experience.   ·  Regulatory knowledge of UST, RCRA and CERCLA and other appropriate state and federal regulations. ·  Perform and manage project tasks for government and private clients. Communicate with clients and regulators. Perform technical functions on projects and direct the technical efforts of more junior project team members. ·  Working knowledge with engineering treatment processes for soil, groundwater and related waste streams. Perform field pilot testing studies to determine design parameters. ·  Prepare proposals, work plans, schedules and technical reports. Prepare corrective action plans, engineering designs, specifications and other engineering documents. Review associated environmental documents (e.g., CSR, SISR, CAP). ·  Supervise and coordinate the work of subcontractors as appropriate. Provide technical direction and guidance to technicians and field personnel. ·  Travel to project sites in multiple locations in the Southeast United States or other locations that may be required.   QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.   EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Civil or Environmental Engineering; a minimum of three to five years of related engineering experience. Direct experience with Georgia EPD regulators is also desirable.   OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and AutoCAD software required. Proven ability to resolve conflicts and provide solutions in a professional manner.   PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB: Assisting field investigation and construction oversight activities could potentially require the following: Performing strenuous fieldwork under a variety of site and weather conditions; Standing, crouching and sitting to facilitate operation of the equipment and collecting samples; moving earth via shovels or hand augers; lifting of pumps, other remediation equipment, cases containing equipment, sample coolers and other items weighing between 1 and 50 pounds; and potential exposure to natural (e.g., poison ivy) and chemical hazards. Since most projects are located in Georgia, heat can be an issue.   LANGUAGE SKILLS: Effective oral and written communication skills.  Ability to read, research, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical documents and procedures, and government regulations. Ability to write detailed technical reports, business correspondence, and procedures suitable for client submittal. Ability to effectively present information, communicate, and respond to questions from groups of coworkers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to perform and maintain rigorous detailed documentation of field activities.     REASONING ABILITY: Ability to evaluate and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.   CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification is required; professional engineer (PE) certification desirable. OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and current 8-hour refresher training certificates required.
