Electrical Department Manager - Refinery Experience
Eichleay Engineers Inc. of California (Eichleay) provides engineering services in both industrial (petroleum refining, chemicals, manufacturing) and biotech/pharmaceutical facilities. Eichleay provides full service design, engineering, consulting, project management, procurement, and construction support services. Eichleay is currently looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer/Department Manager in our Long Beach California office. Please check us out on the web at www.eichleay.com
The Electrical Department Manager ensures that all projects assigned are staffed to meet the individual demands of the project. The Department Manager works in conjunction with Project Managers, and other team members, to resolve schedule and resource challenges resulting from various project requirements.
Responsibilities of this position include conceptual, preliminary and final engineering of power distribution, substation design, short circuit/coordination studies, protective device evaluation, controls, lighting and Title 24 calculations. Duties also include the design of 480 Volt and emergency/standby power distribution systems for large facilities including, but not limited to, refineries, biotech and pharmaceutical, food processing, wineries etc. Additional duties include specification and procurement of electrical equipment, rendering of technical assistance during construction and start-up phases, supervision of groups of engineers and designers, and client/vendor interfacing. Also required are field inspections including system checkout and commissioning.
This position requires California professional registration, a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, and at least 10 years relevant experience in the design and preparation of construction documents for industrial and facilities electrical projects. The Electrical Department Manager is also responsible for the recruitment and supervision of a staff of electrical engineers and designers.
Essential Functions:
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
· Review and approve the technical quality of all work performed within the department.
· Maintain knowledge of new technical developments in the discipline by reading technical literature and by contacts within and outside the Eichleay. Attend technical and professional society meetings and seminars.
· Review unusual or complex design problems and provide guidance for their solution either personally, by subordinate staff, or by outside consultants.
· Ensure that all necessary inter-discipline and other communications are being effectively accomplished at all levels.
· Resolve disputes and conflicts that develop within the discipline or with other disciplines or elements of the Eichleay. Keep the Director of Engineering informed of all circumstances that could affect projects or Clients.
· Maintain continuous contact with work in progress by reviewing or approving key drawings or design concepts and specifications developed by the project groups and reviewed by the discipline staff.
· Be familiar with and implement all Eichleay and EQS procedures relating to responsibilities of the Department Manager and all functional positions in his/her department (i.e. checking and approval).
· Establish the discipline training needs, obtains budgeting approval and direct the development of training programs.
· Direct the development of and approve standard specifications and design procedures in the discipline.
· Make periodic sales presentations to prospective Clients as well as participate in contacts with existing Clients to improve relationships and increase Eichleay's ability to obtain new work.
· Review all Department time sheets on a daily basis. Approve all Department time sheets on a biweekly basis.
· Use engineering and design computer software to complete assigned work.
Skills and Special Requirements/Licensing:
· PE License (registered in California)
· AutoCAD.
· Experience in working with multiple discipline projects.
· Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Suite.
· Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Background screening includes previous employment, education, criminal history, and driving record verification.
