Engineer - Manufacturing

Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, develops and improves manufacturing processes and process capabilities by studying manufacturing methods, equipment, and facilities following established procedures in the following areas:

 

Essential Functions:

· Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.

· Develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.

· Improves manufacturing efficiency by evaluating new technologies and equipment, analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.

· Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.

· Prepares product and process reports

· Complies with government regulations.

· Coordinates maintenance and repair services.

· Completes design and development projects

 

Additional Responsibilities:

· Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

· Support of and involvement in company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.

· Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

 

Job Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Engineering from a four-year college or university with 5 to 10 years related experience in a production industry.

· Experience with statistical analysis, precision measurement, and process capability studies. Overall capability in these disciplines must be previously demonstrated.  Must have continuous experience with significant capital projects.

· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.

· Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers.

· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Physical Requirements:

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

· The employee must exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, accommodation, color vision, field of vision.

· May be exposed to a dusty environment and/or considerable noise from machinery.
