Engineer (Welding)

 

Summary:

This position requires the ability to plan new applications including process setup, equipment specification, and process development. Skills in troubleshooting, problem solving, corrective and preventive action planning and implementation are required. Additionally the position requires the continual review of welding processes for Quality, Safety and Cost improvements. Knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel and AWS D 1.1 codes is required. Some travel may be necessary.

Principal Responsiblities:

1. Develops welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment for problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals, metal alloys, and engineering principles.

 

2. Conducts research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures, discover new patterns of welding phenomena, or to correlate and substantiate hypotheses.

 

3. Prepares technical reports as result of research and development and preventive maintenance investigations.

 

4. Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post heating requirements.

 

5. Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.

 

6. Directs and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.

 

7. Contacts personnel of other agencies, engineering personnel, or clients to exchange ideas, information, or offer technical advice concerning welding matters.

 

8. May perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.

 

9. Prepare and maintain reports and records (welding and NDT) for projects.

 JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1. Minimum 4 year technical BS degree as a Welding Engineering (or in related engineering disciplines w/comparable additional experience in precision welding technology); Advanced technical degree or profession license is a plus; Professional Engineer License is desired.

 

2. Manufacturing experience is a must, multi-plant experience is desirable.

 

3. Ability to demonstrate initiative and assertiveness, the ability to plan and manage work in an efficient manner, and the ability to work well under stress and time pressures.
