We need a talented individual to fill the role of Engineering Manager for Wellman Products Group. This individual will be responsible for the direction, planning, organization and supervision of the engineering staff in the establishing of engineered standards, development process routings, total value stream management, management of new product introduction, and all aspects of continuously improving individual value streams. This person will work with their associated plant to assist/lead the implementation of world-class product and process engineering initiatives. This individual will participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives, Six Sigma projects, and other world-class practices to eliminate waste and reduce variation within our operations.

Qualifications

Fully engage staff of engineers to manage their assigned value streams from cradle to grave ensuring involvement from quoting through new product introduction.

Plan, organize and supervise a staff of engineers and any related clerical workers engaged in developing and improving process value streams.

Make work assignments to appropriate personnel, establish procedures to be followed and review completed work.

Work with engineering staff and manufacturing personnel on design modifications consistent with desired value stream improvement leading to safety improvements, quality improvements, delivery improvement, or cost reduction.

Conduct special continuous improvement engineering studies and analysis of total manufacturing costs including cash impacts.

Develops and manages capital plans, productivity enhancements, and other projects to ensure the appropriate capacity exists in all value streams to provide world class delivery and customer service while enhancing company profitability.

Actively participates in Lean Manufacturing Kaizen events, Six Sigma projects, capital projects, and other related safety, quality, cost, or delivery improvement projects.

Develops staff training programs and ensures staff skill sets relating to Lean, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis, and other appropriate skills are maintained at the level required by corporate training initiatives.

Solves problems confronting manufacturing performance, directly or indirectly, employing the tools of engineering analysis, and identifying support as required.

Analyzes work force utilization, flow of product, and design layouts of equipment and workspace for maximum manufacturing efficiency. Will employ the tools of 5S, Visual Management, Kanban, Cell Manufacturing, Flow, and other tools where appropriate.

Must be a strong leader capable of building and maintaining a strong staff of engineering professionals dedicated to developing world class processes.

Must maintain an entrepreneurial spirit, not afraid to take risks, celebrating successes of others, and taking responsibility for actions and the results of their efforts.

Must be willing to travel as required to perform the objectives of this function.

Participates in and develops strong teams oriented to the resolution of engineering problems through the use of all world class tools.

Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, Industrial, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering. Masters Degree and Six Sigma Green Belt certification a plus.
