Engineering Service Technician

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary focus will be building prototypes, running tests, and gathering data under the direction of Project Engineers along with travel to job sites to implement new and current products in the field.Specific job duties include assembling, monitoring, and troubleshooting power converters, compiling and analyzing test data, as well as reporting test results.  Travel to and training at customer sites on installed products.Perform on-site installation and commissioning at domestic and international sites.  Train and orientate the customer representative during installations and maintenance to familiarize them with the AMSC product.Working with engineers in building and testing of prototype equipment for future implementation.Evaluation of failed components both mechanical and electrical.  Must be able to determine root cause of failure during analysis of failed components. Work with production to maintain proper test and assembly procedures.Train and orientate the customer representative during installations and maintenance to familiarize them with the AMSC product.Interact with customer representative to solve problems that need immediate attention to maintain availability. Represent the customer’s viewpoint based on Field Service knowledge of system operations at customer sites to improve the product or reduce costs.Organize, develop as necessary, and maintain the documentation pertaining at each customer site including schematics, user manuals, etc.Distribute documentation to customer and maintain a file of all documentation for use at AMSC.Schedule and perform maintenance and upgrades of units in the field.  Perform electrical and mechanical field-testing to assure reliability or troubleshoot problems.Communicate effectively with engineering staff at AMSC Power Systems to assure problem resolution.Contribute suggestions for product improvement.Assist Engineering & Manufacturing with factory testing of new units.Document testing methods for Field Service implementation and reference.Training and technical enhancement of field service technicians.Domestic and international travel required- especially to Pacific Rim and Far East.Travel time anticipated at least 25% per month.

Necessary Experience/Skills/Knowledge4-10 years experience in an electrical/electronics environment.Working knowledge with low voltage electrical circuits.Basic knowledge of electronics and willingness to continue learningAbility to read electrical and electronic schematicsBasic computer knowledge in a Windows environmentStrong written and oral communication skillsExperience in utilizing equipment including oscilloscopes, meters.Basic soldering skills and electromechanical assembly. Ability to work both in teams and independently Minimum Education Requirements
