The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a regional agency of the state of Florida, and is charged with managing and protecting water resources of the region by balancing and improving water quality, flood control, natural systems and water supply. SFWMD's boundaries extend from central Florida to Lake Okeechobee, and from coast to coast, from Fort Myers to Fort Pierce, south through the sprawling Everglades to the Florida Keys and Florida Bay.  A professional position that administers Everglades Rule 40E-63 permit and post-permit compliance (PPC). Position requires an approximate equal combination of office and field activities. Primary workload consists of the following: developing source control strategies for agricultural and urban areas, verifying implementation of source controls, using an integrated regulatory approach to water quality issues (review Works of the District Permits, Environmental Resource Permits, and Consumptive Water Use compliance), using surface water quality and hydrology models and GIS tools, analyzing  water quality data, technical permit and PPC review of best management practices (BMPs), reviewing technical reports on BMP demonstration and research projects, rule development initiatives, pump calibrations, field inspections, field flow measurement verifications, landowner interaction, documentation, report writing, contract management, statistical evaluations, and analytical problem solving.   Successful applicant must be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The ability to actively manage time and independently schedule and track multiple assignments is essential to this position. Strong analytical skills, creativity for developing technically sound source control strategies, and relationship-building skills are essential for success. Minimum requirements include a BS in Engineering (prefer agricultural, civil or environmental) with 4 years of qualifying experience.
