Environmental Microbiology/Hydrogeology

Position in Environmental Microbiology/Hydrogeology at Columbia University

 

The Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Columbia University, jointly with Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and Department of Environmental Sciences at Barnard College is recruiting an Associate Research Scientist with expertise in environmental microbiology to work on a new project funded under the NSF/NIH Ecology of Infectious Disease program to study microbial pathogens in shallow groundwater aquifers of Bangladesh. 

 

This interdisciplinary study builds Columbia’s on-going efforts to address the groundwater arsenic problem in the same region supported by the Superfund Basic Research Program ( http://superfund.ciesin.columbia.edu).  We seek an individual with expertise in the detection of bacteria and viruses inhabiting shallow subsurface sediments, and also with hydrogeology/groundwater flow-modeling experience.

A PhD and post-doctoral experience in microbiology, engineering, hydrology or related discipline is required.
