FEA Dynamic & Static Sealing Engineer

Our client is one of the world’s largest producers of elastomeric seals and custom molded products.  We are looking for a strong Engineer to fill one of their needs in the Plymouth, Michigan office (this is a direct hire opportunity)

 

DYNAMIC & STATIC SEALING ENGINEER

Job Description:

• With nominal guidance from R&D Director, develop and research new technologies for dynamic and static sealing.
• Participate as a team member on various product development projects led by Business Units.
• Participate in conducting failure analysis of various sealing products and become a go-to expert in current sealing technologies.
• Generates necessary test requests and oversees their timely completion.
• Originates, and leads the design and implementation of unique tests in order to develop innovative sealing technologies and products.
• Participates in various R&D projects and provides analytical and hands-on engineering problem solving capabilities to support all Technology groups. Finite Element Methods and close form solutions and approximations are to become primary tools.

Additional Duties:

• Provides FEA services for “urgent” activities.
• Conducts both theoretical and experimental research and development work in order to improve quality of the FEA and other analytical tools predictions.
• Participates in creation of technologies to simplify and improve routine part analyses
• Writes technical reports and maintains proper documentation.

COORDINATES WITH:
Design engineers, CAD designers, Malaysian Regional Office, Mechanical, Material and Physical Test Laboratories, Vendors, and Customers.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• BS in Mechanical Engineering.
• MS / PhD in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent STRONGLY preferred.
• 7-10 years in development and research of products made of elastomers and metal / elastomer composites, such as dynamic seals, gaskets, vibration isolation components, elastomeric bearings, etc.
• Hands-on experience and desire for running their own test programs, participating in designing new test equipment specific to dynamic and static seals.
• Fundamental understanding and experience in FEA.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills, capable working in team environment and willing to challenge existing practices.

• Experience in product design and engineering with rubber.
• Project management experience.
• Experience in ABAQUS standard and explicit and Hypermesh.
• Experience with non-linear analysis including: contacts, plastic deformations, hyper-elasticity, and fatigue.
• Experience with 3D CAD environment
