Alliant Techsystems (ATK)-Tactical Propulsion and Controls Systems has a challenging opportunity for aFabrication Technician (Casting) in Elkton, MD. This Division ofATK specializes in the production of tactical propulsion systems and composite metal structures.The Fabrication Technician will follow the directions of supervisors and lead operators in the preparation, application, and processing of propellant for rocket motors. A general process is the material preparation, rocket motor case insulation, mixing, sub-mix transport, de-aeration, casting, oven cure, final assembly, and package. The Fabrication Technician will operate production equipment such as mixers, presses, lathes, scales, hoists, forklifts, ovens, and computers. This position will read and follow written manufacturing instructions and coordinate with the Quality Inspector to create rocket motor components. This position requires the safe handling of hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA regulations and company processes/procedures. This position supports many areas such as ordinance, casting, insulation, final assembly and lining.Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent required and 2 to 5 years of experience is preferred. Candidates must be able to read blueprints. Candidates should have hands-on production experience in a job-shop or assembly line environment. Proficiency in reading comprehension and math skills are a must. Candidates must have good safety and attendance work histories. Candidates are required to have the ability to be certified for respirator use and competency to be trained in forklift operation. Candidates must be able to work overtime and have flexibility to meet changing work hours for staff production needs. Exposure to chemistry and vocational training such as soldering, woodworking, metalworking, electrical, welding, or mechanical training is a plus. Computer training is a plus especially Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word.
