Field Coordinator (Railroad Signaling)

Union Switch & Signal, Inc. (US&S) has an immediate need for a Field Coordinator to be home-based in the Chicago, IL area:

 

Purpose:To provide customer and US&S project team with on-site expertise in maintaining stability and configuration management of US&S supplied systems.  Uses problem analysis techniques and configuration management procedures in order to maintain and coordinate all systems at the site.Interface with System Engineer and Project Director on a regular basis. On-site interface to customer.

 Education:Bachelors degree in Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related fields or five to ten years railroad signaling experienceExperience with customer interface, rail system construction and installation Experience with US&S systems and equipment is preferred

 

Responsibilities/Functions:

 

Configuration ManagementManages all software transfers/warm starts/cold starts at the siteIs familiar with hardware setup of all systems and equipment at the siteKeeps current backup of the system disks and drawingsMaintains data files and port assignments necessary for each type of devicePerforms backup and restore procedures if a hardware problem is identifiedMaintains all command files at the siteMaintains a complete set of up-to-date wayside circuit drawingsMaintains a complete set of applicable service manualsMaintains a complete set of contract documents, specifications, drawings, etc.

 

 

Processing Problem ReportsObtains/organizes information related to customer problem reportsAnalyzes customer problem reports to provide insight to the project teamFilters out customer problem reports that incorrectly identify problemsEnters valid reports into Problem Reporting Handler and forwards reports to the System EngineerUses debugging tools to assist in problem resolution

 

Customer InterfaceKeeps customer updated with status of software modifications to go on-line and problem analysesParticipates in weekly customer phone meetingsResponds to emergencies in a timely mannerParticipates at weekly on-site project meeting and provide PM/PA with copies of all documentation, meeting notes, schedule updates, etc.

 

Field Site TestingCoordinates and participates in site testing of hardware and software componentsAssists Field Test Engineer with wayside and office testing.

 

 

MetricsGather ‘re-start’ metrics as out lined for quarterly reviewsGenerate customer contact metrics related to the number of questions/clarifications on ART (auto routing) operations, CTC functions, IS functions and hardware functionsGenerate log of all off-hour customer callsGenerate monthly report summarizing ‘re-start’ metrics, customer contact metrics, and off hour customer calls, perception of customer satisfaction

 

Additional Functions/ResponsibilitiesMaintain awareness of activities of supplier of computer-hardware maintenance services, vital wayside equipment and ground equipment.Coordinates material deliveries with end-userFamiliar with installation of wayside and office equipment proceduresSupport US&S RMA process for damaged equipmentInterface with US&S manufacturing and shipping departmentsProvide support to US&S Finance Department/Accounts ReceivableMaintain onsite correspondence logs, meeting notes, job specifications, Submit monthly expense reports
