Lear Siegler Services is accepting applications for the Sierra Army Depot in Herlong, CA. Herlong, CA is approximately 50-miles north of Reno, NV.THIS POSITION REQUIRES A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK AND PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREENING. MUST BE ABLE TO SPEAK AND READ ENGLISH AND PROVIDE PROOF OF YOUR RIGHT TO WORK IN THE UNITED STATES.A high school diploma/GED and three years of related experience are required. Three (3) years full time documented, verifiable experience required. Incumbent must possess knowledge of the electrical and mechanical makeup, operation and working relationships of a variety of electrical and electromechanical systems, accessories and components used on heavy mobile vehicles.Required to possess ability, skill and knowledge required to perform pre-shop analysis, troubleshooting and ability to repair, replace, install and modify components/items. Ability to install wiring harness, 24 volt circuits, radio and antenna, horn, siren and heaters. Ability to read and utilize schematics, blueprints and drawings. Ability to use hand tools, test equipment such as voltmeter, ammeter, continuity check equipment, test lights, multi-meters (digital and analogue) and measuring equipment such as micrometers, dial indicators and torque wrenches. Ability to fabricate and/or repair wiring harness, radio harness and other electrical system(s) in heavy mobile equipment.Required to have a basic knowledge of electrical principles in order to perform repair/rebuild on accessory items. Frequent lifting of items weighing 44 pounds or less is required. Lifting devices such as hoist and clings are available in many of the work areas. Duties require stooping, bending, extended periods of standing on concrete or wooden floors. Periodically required to climb ladder to perform wiring on vehicle(s).Per Diem will be paid to those that qualify for 60-days at a rate of $69.30 per day = $4,158.Salary for this position is $20.58 per hour. Job Description : Assigned as a member of the Repair Shop Unit which provides the repair, maintenance, and general servicing of engineering, floating plant, and automotive equipment as well as other miscellaneous items of mechanical equipment. Job responsibility is concerned with the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of various types of cranes, passenger vehicles, trucks, gas-and diesel-powered tractors, draglines, compressors, etc.1. Perform maintenance and repair work on gasoline-and diesel-powered vehicles or equipment of a construction, industrial, or general commercial nature such as lawn mowers, trucks, crawler cranes, tractors, power shovels, hydraulic lifts, generators, and similar items. Performs maintenance and repairs that can be accomplished by cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing worn or defective parts of components and systems. Tasks performed in the maintenance and repair of the various vehicles and equipment include:a. Using a basic variety of hand-tools and test equipment, locates worn, dirty, or poorly adjusted parts and completes repairs by cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing worn or defective items, such as replacing starters, generators, ignition and wiring, fuel pumps, fouled spark plugs, corroded mufflers, and similar components. Makes necessary settings and adjustments to engine idle and timing, distributor and voltage regulator points, magnetos, valves, coils, condensers, etc. Uses Bear Ace machine for diagnostic evaluation of vehicles. Is completely familiar with all functions of this test equipment. Uses and hooks up vehicles to same. Interprets results from analyzer and recommends repairs to supervisor.b. Removes and replaces defective transmissions, selector rods, pumps, starters, bearings, valve bodies, bands, clutches, clutch discs, and pressure pump and plates, etc. Reassembles, adjusts, tests, and reinstalls on equipment.c. Repairs braking systems by adjusting or replacing brake shoes, hydraulic system components, including leaky master and wheels cylinders, air brakes, and disc brakes. Replaces and adjusts tracks, road wheels, road wheel bearings, idler wheels and bearings, oil seals, torsion and stabilizer bars, suspension arms, etc.d. Repairs and adjusts power and mechanical steering systems and differential and final drives including removing, disassembling, and/or replacing axle bearings and universal joints. Synchronizes duel engines with cross drive by adjusting linkage, timing, etc., with tachometer. Reassembles engines or power packs, adjusts and tests on test stand, and reinstalls in vehicle. 55%.2. Refuels vehicles used during the day. Checks drivers' trip tickets for notations of defects or required maintenance such as flat tires, weak battery, defunct lights, or other details of first echelon maintenance. Checks speedometer mileage against service record car mileage for periodic lubrication and servicing. Sets aside vehicles requiring further attention. Checks crankcase oil level and condition, adding oil to maintain proper level. Changes crankcase oil when visual inspection indicates it to be in poor condition, draining, flushing, and refilling with proper grade oil. Inspects oil filter cartridges and inserts new filters when necessary. Lubricates various engine and thesis parts and fittings with type of lubricant indicated by manual. Uses compressed air operated grease guns, oil sprays, and oil cans. Checks level of fluid in master brake cylinder, adding fluid as needed. Checks oil and grease level in transmissions and differentials, adding new oil or grease as needed or draining, flushing, and refilling as indicated by service record card. Replaces defective grease fittings, tightens loose nuts and bolts, and notes defects requiring attention of supervisor. Tests batteries, adds water, when necessary removes from vehicle and connects to charger line, and installs and connects replacement batteries. Services cooling systems by draining, flushing, adding water or anti-freeze as required, checking anti-freeze for proper temperature protection level. Washes, cleans, and polishes cars and trucks. Changes tires and repairs punctures. Checks tires for improper wear indicating improper balance or alignment. Occasionally uses mechanical wheel balancing device to add weights to bring wheels, in balance. Checks serviceability of spare tires. Replaces burned out light bulbs and units. Makes memo report to supervisor of mechanical defects or questionable conditions noted. Maintains record of work performed, mileage, fuel and oil used, date of service, etc. 25%3. For minor amounts of time, works on automotive equipment and performs general housekeeping tasks as follows:a. Performs mechanical maintenance, overhaul, and repair of various makes, types, and sizes of passenger cars and trucks. Work is performed in the same manner as described above for engineering equipment. Serves as air conditioning worker for repair charging and recycling of Freon. Maintains proper federal certifications for repair, charging, recycling. Stays familiar with regulations concerning chlorofluorocarbons relating to air conditioning standards.b. Performs various tasks incident to cleaning tools, storing them in proper places, and in the general maintenance of good housekeeping conditions in the shop area. 20% Performs other duties as assigned.SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE1. Ability to plan, and carry out work in accordance with instructions and specifications.2. Knowledge of where and how a variety of components, accessories, and parts of systems are installed.3. Ability to determine when parts should be cleaned and reinstalled or replaced.4. Skill to remove and replace parts and to make tune-up adjustments and settings and to reassemble or reinstall in vehicle as appropriate.5. Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to heavy duty vehicles.6. Skill in using common hand-tools and test equipment.RESPONSIBILITYWorks under the general supervision of the Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Foreman with work being assigned through established maintenance schedules and delegated responsibility for accomplishment of needed preventive maintenance and repair through the exercise of judgment and experience in performing assigned maintenance and repair work. Employee selects tools, decides on the methods and techniques to use, and carries out routine assignments with little in-progress check. Identifies and obtains standard parts or replacement items through review of manuals, comparisons with other parts, etc., and insures that adjustments and settings meet established manufacturer, manual, and other specifications. Supervisor or other higher graded mechanic (as assigned) gives advice on unusual or otherwise technically complex problems with review of work in terms of maintaining equipment and systems in optimum operating condition and for the economical and proper use of materials and equipment and adherence to safety rules and regulations.hjlsi06 : : EOE M/F/D/V
