Hydrogeologist - Scientist 4

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a regional agency of the state of Florida, and is charged with managing and protecting water resources of the region by balancing and improving water quality, flood control, natural systems and water supply. SFWMD's boundaries extend from central Florida to Lake Okeechobee, and from coast to coast, from Fort Myers to Fort Pierce, south through the sprawling Everglades to the Florida Keys and Florida Bay. South Florida Water Management District is seeking a Hydrogeologist-Scientist 4 professional.  Job duties include: data review, archiving and uploading, QA/QC correction of hydrogeologic data for the District’s DBHydro database, oversight of well drilling and aquifer testing, oversight of specified Alternative Water Supply projects and/or other small contracts, and other field/office duties as assigned, with moderate to minimal supervision by senior staff. Knowledge of hydrogeologic principles and inter-relationships including the hydrologic cycle is required. Familiarity with field methods used in hydrogeologic data collection and research (e.g., lithologic, water quality sampling techniques, surface water/ground water measurements, etc.) is desired. Knowledge of monitoring well networks including purpose, design and implementation is desirable, as well as basic knowledge of setting up aquifer performance tests, analyzing and interpreting resulting field data, etc. The applicant should be proficient at documenting and presenting the results of their work. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint is required. Database experience is a plus. This position requires both office and field work duties. Field work (aquifer performance testing, field sample collection, logging of boreholes etc.) is conducted periodically throughout the year, sometimes under adverse weather conditions (hot, humid and wet).  Travel to remote locations in a 4-wheel drive vehicle may be required from time to time to conduct field activities and may involve daily and overnight excursions throughout the 16 county SFWMD geographic area.  Some field events may require the employee to remain at the test site overnight and assist with manual labor. The candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds. This mid- level position that requires a Bachelor's degree and four (4) or more years of applied experience.
