LED Design Engineer

Job Summary:

 

The LED device engineer is responsible for developing an integrated optical device design for white LEDs, including specification of fundamental chip parameters, wavelength conversion materials and light extraction mechanisms.

 

The LED device engineer will work closely with team members in chip design and process, reliability, and packaging to develop next generation white LEDs for the general illumination market meeting cost, performance, yield, and reliability targets.

 

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Design and develop high efficacy and high power wavelength-converted white-light LEDs

· Develop and maintain theoretical understanding of the full optical system, including chip behavior, light extraction design, and wavelength-conversion material performance.

· Support theoretical design by quantitative experimental analysis.  Coordinate designed experiments from epi forwards to packaged devices.

· Communicate and document theoretical design expectations and experimental results for both technical and non-technical audiences.

 

 

 

Minimum Qualification Required: (when qualifications include education or equivalent, define equivalent)

· Extensive experience in optical device design, including theoretical and experimental expertise in doped optical materials, optical interfaces, and optical semiconductor materials.

· Demonstrated ability to work in a team.

· PhD in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Optics, or equivalent discipline

· 3-5 years relevant product development experience in industry

 

 

Additional Desired Qualification/Experience:

· Demonstrated system-level approach to optical device design

· Demonstrated use of statistical data analysis and Design-of-Experiments techniques

· Experience with white LED manufacturing, including development of color-binning approaches.

· Experience in design of vertical emission semiconductor optical systems is a plus.
