Lead Mechanical Engineer

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 10 years experience as a Mechanical Engineering, designing and providing specification of process equipment. Must be a licensed Professional Engineer by exam. Must have CADD software knowledge. Must be able to successfully execute the technical scope of work to manage the engineering and procurement of air pollution control systems within their discipline. This may include projects for new or retrofit installations of equipment to control emissions of sulfur dioxide, sulfur trioxide, mercury, oxides of nitrogen, and greenhouse gases. Job Description : Key member of the URS Austin Process Technology Office, and will be engaged in a lead role to execute mechanical design and support procurement of equipment and materials.Responsibilities include:Planning* Develops an execution plan for projects including a comprehensive, detailed task and deliverable work item registry (WIR) for the projects.* Develops budgets and tasks for projects using PTO approved estimating methods Execution * Ensures that the engineering deliverables being produced are in compliance with requirements of the design basis of the projects.* Coordinates and prepares deliverables (calculations, specifications and drawings) for submittal to clients.* Provides project progress reports of discipline activities as prescribed by PMPs for project tracking and earned value management.* Communicates regularly with Project Engineer to update progress and identify issues that may arise during the course of projects.* Responsible for final release of design documents to Project Engineer for issuance to client.* Coordinates activities within their discipline to meet the project objectives.* Manages discipline budgets and tracks progress for estimates to complete through the course of projects. * Actively participates in weekly project team coordination meetings, providing comprehensive updates on team activities, staffing, schedule performance and budget performance.* Participates in interdisciplinary review of deliverables with other disciplines on project teams.* Mentors team members in their execution and completion of tasks to meet project objectives.Control * Provides general supervision of all team members within their discipline. * Identifies lessons learned with engineering work processes and recommends corrective action plan.* Verifies that applicable codes and engineering standard practices are being met.* Ensures all project documents for their discipline are maintained and saved on the network folders and in the Central File location.* Supports Project Engineer and Project Manager during the detailed checking and ITR processes in compliance with QA procedures.* Reviews all work performed by the discipline engineers after its execution and before its release to the Project Engineer to ensure that the work meets project scope requirements. * Assists Project Engineer in identifying potential change orders to current project scope.* Provides input to Project Engineer in developing cost and schedule impacts of potential change orders.Project direction and supervision received from Project Engineer, Project Manager and assigned Team Leader/Department Manager.The URS Process Technology Office, located in Austin, TX, is aggressively growing to keep pace with the ever-expanding Power market, and the stringent restrictions being placed on the emission of pollutants.
