Materials and Process Development Engineer
Assists the product design team (engineering and manufacturing) in material selection (product form and alloy selection) for detail part fabrication. Assists the product design team (engineering and manufacturing) in determining the appropriate assembly, joining and finishing processes to meet the Solar Products Performance, Reliability, Safety and Cost targets. Responsible for defining and executing the material testing and process development plans required meeting the product performance, reliability, safety and costing targets. Responsible for production process development as related to establishing and determining engineering requirements to insure that product performance, safety and reliability are met. This includes joining (welding, brazing, diffusion bonding, fastening etc) procedure development and qualification. Responsible for supplier technical evaluation and qualification. Assists supply chain manager in evaluating suppliers. This will include first article inspection plans. · Determines material, part and process sampling plan to ensure that the product specifications will be met during the product lifecycle. Reporting Relationship:· VP of Engineering and Product Development Skills/Abilities/KnowledgeKnowledge Computer literate (Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project preferred). CAD experience preferred. Must have demonstrated understanding of production and prototype material systems, product forms, joining processes, corrosion and material issues across a broad array of applications. Skills/Abilities Must possess strong team player abilities, these include; a demonstrated character of integrity, ability to communicate a clear, concise vision and the ability to influence team members at all levels of an organization for positive project results. Must posses’ demonstrated knowledge of high temperature alloys and joining techniques to meet high volume production rates (up to 10,000 - 40,000 units per year). Must posses’ demonstrated knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, their product forms (plate, bar, castings). Must posses demonstrated knowledge (or the ability to learn quickly) of forming, stamping, swaging, welding (fusion and solid state), adhesives, ceramics (insulation) and finishes. Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret customer or internal specification documents, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, and correlation techniques. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Education/ExperienceRequired:Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in materials science from a four-year college or university; Master’s degree preferred. Minimum five years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of experience and advanced engineering education required.
