Position Description:

Design and analyze mechanical systems, equipment and packaging. Conduct feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs. Direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Job Duties include but are not limited to• Design, build and validate mechanical subsystems for the DNA reader and cluster creation instrument• Perform detailed tolerance analysis• Conduct FEA analysis – stress, vibration, thermal• Hands-on building and testing of prototypes. Feasibility studies will include throughput, reliability, cost, ergonomics and product quality• Develop detailed drawings, BOM’s, assembly dwgs, assembly methods and other supporting engineering documentation•Write ECO’s• Work closely with vendors responsible for fabricated and assembled parts to ensure incoming parts meet design intent and specificationEducation and Experience:• M.S. in Mechanical Engineering• 5+ years industry experience• Part, assembly and drawing design using Solid Works• Knowledge of tooling processes, technologies and capabilities• Demonstrated expertise in designing complex automated instrumentation involving machine control, fluidics, optics, and electronics• Experience releasing products into manufacturing• Strong oral and written communication skills for documentation and problem solving• Ability to work as a team player and drive projects to successful completion in a cross-functional environment
