Mechanical Supervisor

This is an ideal job for a Mechanical Engineer that will provide you the intellectual and technical challenges of a highly diverse manufacturing/engineering experience. As part of our creative engineering team you will have direct impact on the creation of our innovative state-of-the-art metrology products.

The ideal candidate will have a BSME, five years experience in the design of plastic, die cast, carbon composite and machined parts and products.

1. Mechanical Design support of Arm and Laser Line Probe product lines.
2. Primary interface to manufacturing operations on mechanically related issues and design improvement opportunities.
3. Responsible for design changes, failure analysis, product updates, and vendor interface in support of released product.
4. Primary interface to Quality group on product issues requiring Engineering involvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Design plastic, die cast, carbon composite and machined parts and products.
2. Provide Engineering support to manufacturing.
3. Design fixtures and tools to build and test products.
4. Develop and implement testing procedures. Evaluate and document test results.
5. Provide input to departmental and company procedures to correct problems or deficiencies, recommending and implementing changes where indicated and approved.
6. Serve as a member of a material review in support of production.
7. Receive requests from management to prepare design of product or fixture. Assess the project and clarify specifications as necessary to complete design.
8. Prepare CAD drawing and models of designated product or fixture. Calculate and lay out dimensions, angles, curvature of parts, materials to be used, and relationship of various parts to entire structure.
9. Create models for documentation of designs for use in production processes for new or existing products. Modify drawings and models to cure problems in operation or production.
10. Assign design tasks to Mechanical Drafters when indicated. Oversee work by drafters and ensure integrity of design is retained.
11. Coordinate machining processes; determine needs of machine shop to fulfill the production requirement and be available to clarify design instructions.
12. Conduct mechanical engineering analysis with finite element models, including structural and thermal analyses of systems and components. Evaluate and document the results of the analyses.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Various computer equipment, peripherals and software including, design, analysis, mathematical, and graphics packages. Mechanical and computerized measuring devices and standard office equipment.

 

Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Continuous lightweight lifting, some lifting of light to average weight materials and occasional lifting of heavy weight materials over 60 lbs. Frequent bending and stooping, pushing, pulling, and sitting.

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or similar degree required.
2. Minimum of five year experience.
3. 2-3 years experience in design of small machined, die cast and injection molded parts. 4. Experience with carbon composites, epoxy bonding, optics, lases and rotary encoder is a plus.
5. 1-2 years experience of design for manufacturing and design for assembly for medium to high volume production.
6. Excellent computer skills required.
