Metallographer

SUMMARY: 

Applicant will provide support to the Metallurgical Laboratory and other areas of Thielsch Engineering (TEI) as required.  This is a Laboratory Technician Position at TEI.  The objective is to provide hands on metallurgical and photography expertise.  This will be accomplished by providing technical support to the professional engineers of TEI and perform assigned tasks from laboratory generated customers.  Assignments will be given and prioritized by the Materials Laboratory Manager

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following but are not limited to:Photography of samples as required by local or national jobsPreparation of samples for metallographyRun Laboratory and Metallographic tests according to the requested customer specifications. Work closely with project engineers on failure analysisParticipate in laboratory cross training effortsOther Assignments as requested by the laboratory Manager/SupervisorAll work will comply with the TEI Materials Laboratory Quality System.Keep work place clean and orderly

 

QUALIFICATIONS:Technical CompetenceAbility to follow projects through to completionMust be able to handle a wide variety of assignments simultaneouslyCurious, with a desire to learn new thingsDesire to solve problemsCreative, assist the engineers in developing test protocolsAbility to work as part of a team

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  2 years advanced technical training and 1 year related work experience or 3 years related job experience

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Must be able to communicate effectively and follow written instructions

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Capable of performing technical calculations

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Problem solving skills

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:  Computer Literate:  word processing, spreadsheets, digital photography, capable of learning new programs as required.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  N/A

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  May be required to lift objects less than 50 lbs on a routine basis.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Laboratory and Travel as Required (
