Midwest Lead/Principal Product Development Positions - to $120K

Power Technology Associates, Inc. has been leading the way in power and analog engineering recruitment since 1980.  The following opportunities are representative of over 200 positions we are currently staffing nationwide.

Senior Motor Controls Engineer, Hybrid E/V Powertrain Supplier, MI

Will develop and implement software control of a permanent magnet synchronous machine with interior permanent magnets. Will develop and validate four-quadrant vector control-based motor control algorithms for brushless DC, SR, AC induction or similar electric machines. Will utilize dynamometers, HIL, and vehicle tests for validation and operate in a rapid prototyping/commercialization environment. Will develop algorithms to reduce NVH as well as sensorless position sensing algorithms.

 
Must have MS/PhDEE and 7+ years automotive, hybrid E/V, or electric drive experience. Must have working knowledge of ldxlq-based vector control systems development, Matlab/Simulink, RT motor control systems, C and assembly codes, TI TMS320 24xx and 28xxDSP and/or Power PC family of processors.

 

Lead Power Electronics Engineer, Major Automotive Supplier, IN

 
Will assume lead architecture and design roles working in 3-5 person project teams to develop advanced Power Electronic systems consisting of Inverters, dc-dc converters and accessory systems for Hybrid Electric and Fuel Cell vehicles. Proven track record of innovative design of power electronics hardware.

BS/MSEE in Power Electronics with minimum 5 7 years experience including design of inverters, converters, familiarity with power devices (IGBT's, FET's) and 16/32 bit microprocessors, and simulation tools.

 

Principal Program Engineer, Corporate Alternative Energy Group, WI

 
Will identify, analyze, and validate technology applications in the areas of power conversion, motor drives, energy storage and alternative power generation systems and distribution. Will be responsible for leading large new technology development programs and managing project teams (local and remote resources), as well as external technology resources (e.g. universities). Will develop power conversion and control prototypes/concepts in numerous component and system opportunities for electric utility, industrial, automotive, and truck applications.

 
Must have MS/PhDEE and 10+ years experience in the system integration of electrical power, protection, conversion, and control technologies and general knowledge of utility interface power electronics, power quality needs and products. Must have strong program management and team leading skills. Must have technical expertise in: Converter and plant control strategies

AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC Power Converters (Low voltage/medium voltage, 10- 500 kW) Utility interface of power electronics Interfacing converters with alternate energy sources and advanced storage Converter design and control for synchronous/asynchronous motors

 

Diesel Development Engineer, Major Automotive OEM, MI

 
Will apply expertise in diesel engine combustion, calibration, aftertreatment and/or controls, to support the development of next generation diesel engines in both cars and trucks.

Must have BS in Engineering and at least 3 years of experience in diesel engine development and knowledge and experience in one or all of the following; Diesel engine combustion, performance, or emissions development, Diesel Calibration/controls experience, Diesel aftertreatment experience (Lean NOx Trap, DPF, DOC), Diesel engine mapping, Transient emissions testing, Familiarity with ETAS, INCA, (and/or ATI, Malab Simulink), Turbo charging, Systems engineering, Dynamometer rig set-ups and instrumentation.

 

Electronics Packaging Engineer, Aircraft/Aerospace Company, IL/NY

 
Responsible for all mechanical aspects of the electronics hardware packaging design for high technology aerospace products including electronic controllers, power conversion equipment, and power management / power distribution products. Includes the mechanical design of leading edge power electronics equipment from conception through qualification; power interconnect and inductor / transformer design ; chassis design utilizing castings, brazements and sheet metal ; and the mechanical design / development of mixed signal printed wiring boards and flexible circuits.

 
Must have a BSME and a well developed competency in mechanical design, heat transfer and structural analysis along with an in-depth understanding of manufacturing and cost implications. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated self starter with strong written and oral communication skills and work well in a team environment. Must have knowledge of hardware, heat transfer, and mechanical design knowledge for electronics - box level/system level.

 

Senior Motor Design Engineer, Aerospace Company, NY

 
Will generate and validate conceptual motor problem solutions, create reliable designs, and provide documentation. Will collaborate with other engineering disciplines, consult on new process, product, and market development activities, and support design to cost trades with suppliers to insure robust, cost effective solutions.

 
Must have MS/PhDEE and 8+ years broad motor design experience with a focus on PM Brushless AC and DC and PM brush types. Must have knowledge of 2D/3D modeling, Matlab/Simulink, and motion control systems.

 


Embedded Systems Engineer, Alternative Energy Startup, IL

Will focus on firmware and hardware for the control of switching power converters and assume the following responsibilities; Digital control theory, sampled-data modeling, Source code versioning, Qualification testing, Design of systems with critical timing loops, supervisory loops, and user interface functions simultaneously, Design of firmware and hardware interface to EEPROM devices, CAN and other communication buses, ADCs and DACs, etc.

Must meet the following qualifications; BSEE with at least 4 years experience in microcontroller programming, Ability to design support circuitry, such as choosing interface ICs and performing or directing PCB layout, is preferred, Programming MSP430 and PIC microcontrollers in C, CPLD programming (VHDL or schematic entry), DSP programming (e.g. TI 28xx family), Control of switching power supplies. 

Dynamics Analyst, Aircraft/Aerospace Company, IL

 
Perform a variety of structural dynamics analysis and test functions on aircraft electrical power generation and distribution equipment, including:Structural dynamic analysis including modal analysis, prediction of vibration response levels and characteristics, rotordynamic analysis, and stress analysis of electronic enclosures/ circuit boards/electronic components. Methods and tools include finite element analysis (ANSYS), other specialized software, and internally developed routines.Vibration development and qualification testing utilizing electro-dynamic shakers. Tasks include test set-up, programming of the controllers, conducting the test, data acquisition, data analysis and reporting.Diagnostic testing to troubleshoot hardware problems, characterize structural dynamic behavior of equipment, and assess machinery health.

Tests include using a variety of transducer types, signal conditioning, and data acquisition/analysis equipment.

 
Must have MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. 10+ years experience. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of mechanical systems, structural analysis tools, and instrumentation / signal analysis equipment.

 


EMC Design Engineer, Major Automotive Supplier, IN

 
Will closely collaborate with Product Hardware Design Teams to develop, test and qualify Automotive DC/DC Converter & Inverter products, from an EMC perspective, that comply with customer requirements. Working with the Automotive customer, Product Development teams and various internal or external EMC test facilities, this position will own the EMC compliance for DC/DC Converter & Inverter products.Ensure EMC solutions are applied at the PCB and System level to insure compliance to customer requirements.Instruct Product teams on the proper Mechanical or Electrical design techniques to insure product compliance to customer requirements.Ensure that the Product teams are properly informed of Automotive EMC standards.Review and sign-off on Product EMC Validation requirements.Write technical report for customer and Product team based upon product EMC test results.Support Product teams in developing solutions to EMC related product failures during development or Validation testing.Support development of new tools and techniques to ensure that EMC compliance stays ahead of Product design and customer requirements.
