Job Description Operating Technician Facility Operating Services (FOS) is a LLC of Burns & McDonnell.  Current FOS has an exciting opportunity for an Operating Technician located at the Central Utility Plant located at Kansas City’s International Airport in North Kansas City.  This position is responsible for the safe, reliable, efficient control and operation of the boilers, chillers, air compressors, and auxiliary equipment according to established procedures and instructions as well as being responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of other employees and contractors in the facility.  This individual must be capable of making operational decisions for the facility while on shift.  This position is hourly non-exempt shift work and reports to the Plant Manager.Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: Monitors, controls and oversees the operation of multiple gas-fired and oil-fired boilers, turbines, chillers, air compressors, cooling towers and auxiliary equipment. Directs and assists the Operating Technician II in operation of the systems. Reports on attendance and performance of plant personnel to the Plant Manager. Completes logs of information and data as required. Directs and assists maintenance and contract personnel as required to facilitate efficient repair and maintenance of equipment at the facility. Adjusts settings and temperatures and takes equipment in and out of service as required to maintain safe, reliable, efficient operation of the equipment. Interface with Customer from the control room. Observes the outside parameters of the plant from a video monitoring system for visitor access and safety purposes. Coordinate with maintenance personnel and maintenance activities to maintain continuous operation. May be required to perform maintenance and area housekeeping activities. Assist the Plant Manager in training personnel for the Operating Technician I or Operating Technician II positions. Oversees lock-out/tag-out of equipment and systems at the facility. Oversees isolation of equipment at the facility. Responsible for high-voltage electrical switching in the plant and coordination with customer high-voltage electrical switching on the distribution system. Completes housekeeping in the control room and high-voltage switchgear areas. One of the five available positions will be serve as a relief position, and will fill open shifts from absences left by vacations, illnesses, open positions, or other causes in the Operating Technician I and Operating Technician II positions.  Based on workload, the relief Operating Technician may be required to assist in maintenance, reporting, clerical, or other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.  This individual must be cross-trained for both the Operating Technician I & II positions. Qualified candidates will possess a high school diploma or equivalent with at least five years of experience in boiler or chiller plant operations.  Position requires possession of a Class-A Kansas City Stationary Operating Engineer's License or the ability to obtain.  Work hours are normally rotating shifts, but may become straight shifts or weekends and require the ability to lift at least 50 pounds.  Some overtime is required along with being reasonably available for calls and response to emergencies during off-hours.  A valid driver’s license is required. If you are ready for a new challenge, please visit our website at www.burnsmcd.com/careers.  Search Keyword: IRC5792  EOE
