Headquartered in San Ramon, California, and conducting business in approximately 180 countries, the company is engaged in every aspect of the oil and natural gas industry, including exploration and production; refining, marketing and transportation; chemicals manufacturing and sales; and power generation. Chevron North America Exploration and Production is accepting online applications for the position of Operations Geophysicist located in Houston, Texas, USA.Overview:Under the general direction of the Geological & Geophysical (G&G) Operations Team Lead, the G&G Operations Geophysicist interprets seismic, structure, well data, and drilling records to generate hazard analyses and support the development of pressure models for assigned Deepwater Gulf of Mexico (GOM) wells. The Operations Geophysicist will also advise the Operations Team Lead and Well Project teams on status of seismic processing, borehole geophysical modeling, and high resolution seismic or archeological data acquisition. These activities assist the business unit’s drilling performance goals by reducing geologic related non-productive time to increase drilling efficiency while increasing project value in a manner consistent with the company’s health, safety and environmental policies. This position has direct capital stewardship impact on multiple, large, capital well projects. Qualifications:Key Responsibilities:• Interprets, characterizes, integrates and predicts geology, drilling hazards, pore pressure and fracture gradient profiles that can impact optimum well design and drilling execution for exploratory and appraisal deepwater Gulf of Mexico wells.• Provides geophysical technical support to the well site drilling operations team during all phases of operations including tying of well data to seismic, assistance with real-time pore pressure evaluation, daily monitoring and assessment of geologic hazards while drilling, plus co-facilitation of morning operations meetings. • Assists in advising the Operations Team Lead and Well Project teams on geophysical acquisition, processing and interpretation issues that relate to well planning and operations. • Travels, occasionally, offshore to deepwater drilling rigs, as needed, to assist the wellsite geologist in geologic and evaluation operations on deepwater wells.• Utilizes PC (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Drillworks Predict) and seismic workstation tools (e.g., Seisworks, Openworks, Stratworks, in addition to Decision Space, VoxelGeo, Geoprobe, or GOCAD as appropriate), plus high-quality seismic datasets.• Gains valuable pore pressure evaluation skill sets which may be applied to prospect maturation processes such as seal and hydrocarbon migration evaluation. • Hones and integrate structural, stratigraphic, and geophysical and log interpretation skills to interpret stratigraphy, structure, and seismic attributes for drilling hazards, pore pressure, and stress. • Gains valuable understanding of deepwater well design and drilling operations, expertise in project management, opportunities to use advanced visualization tools, and experience working and communicating effectively in a multifunctional work group.Required Qualifications:• Bachelor's Degree in Geophysics.• Ability as an earth scientist to effectively communicate, interact and make things happen in a G&G operations and drilling engineering process workgroup.• Ability to foster cooperation and teamwork across organizational and functional boundaries• Ability to assist in advising the multifunctional project team on geophysical acquisition, processing, and interpretation issues regarding well planning and operations.• Experience and ability to interpret detailed structure and stratigraphic features/facies from seismic using Landmark Seisworks or equivalent software, construct maps, and integrate with detailed regional geologic, well log, drilling, and paleo data to generate effective drilling hazard and earth science models to support deepwater drill planning and operations. • Experience and/or ability to interpret in VOXELGEO, GoCad, EDGE (coherency), Decision Space or other equivalent software 3-D interpretation.• Ability to evaluate pore pressure and fracture gradient profiles using seismic velocity, well logs, measured pressures, mudweights and drilling information and "realtime" Measurement While Drilling logs using Key Success Indicator Drillworks Predict software or equivalent software, or the desire to learn.• Sufficient personal flexibility for periodic 24/7 availability during active drilling operations.• Flexibility for short duration, infrequent travel offshore to support rigsite G&G Operations personnel during critical evaluation operations.Preferred Qualifications:• Master's Degree in Geophysics.• Experience using Landmark Stratworks packages.Relocation Options:Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.International Considerations:Expatriate assignments will be considered.EOE M/F/D/V Learn more about Chevron Location:US-TX-Houston Status:Full Time, Employee Job Category:Engineering
