Headquartered in San Ramon, California, and conducting business in approximately 180 countries, the company is engaged in every aspect of the oil and natural gas industry, including exploration and production; refining, marketing and transportation; chemicals manufacturing and sales; and power generation.OVERVIEW OF POSITION:The Petroleum Engineer/Water flooding position, located in Houston, Texas, is on the Reservoir Surveillance and Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) Team and is part of the Chevron Energy Technology Company. This is primarily a service team that will support basic and advanced water flooding monitoring/optimization (reservoir management and base business), as well as related technology development projects in support of filling surveillance technology gaps in the operating companies. The selected candidate will work directly with asset teams and be responsive to immediate technical service needs, develop common-good tools and share best practices across teams.Travel is required to Operating Company (OPCO) locations to perform studies and support of ongoing operations. Travel may be for extended periods of up to a month or more, and may require presence on rig site operations. Average travel time for team members is 15-20%, but could be as high as 30-35% for some depending on the type of project.Qualifications:RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:• Provides technical support to Chevron operating companies worldwide in optimization of improved oil recovery projects.• Participates as a technical resource on project peer reviews, as well as assists with water flooding and enhanced oil recovery (CO2) projects. • Develops, evaluates and deploys new technology and tools, as well as provides consultation and/or recommends procedures to Chevron operating companies.• Draws on production/reservoir engineering expertise to provide on-site support for reservoir surveillance and IOR projects, including development and deployment of surveillance and monitoring plans for operating companies – both mature assets and new project development. • Works cooperatively with asset teams to provide coaching, improved work processes, reservoir management standards and tools for water flood optimization.• Builds technical capabilities by representing Chevron at industry technical meetings, joint industry project meetings and reviewing current technical literature.• Works in alignment with other internal efforts to improve water flooding performance.• Teaches in selected schools, seminars and courses concerning reservoir surveillance, water flooding and other IOR topics.• Provides mentoring in-house to trainees from affiliate companies.• Supports company of choice strategy by demonstrating Chevron's technological capability to visitors and representing Chevron at industry technical meetings.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:In order to be considered for this job, applicants must have:• A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.• A minimum of 10 years of applied water flooding/reservoir management experience.• The willingness and ability to travel up to 35% of the time to OPCO locations in order to fulfill the requirements of this position. • Experience in the development and execution of reservoir surveillance and monitoring plans for both mature assets and new development projects, along with a working knowledge of intelligent well designs, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems, and use of real-time performance data.• Broad-based operations experience in production engineering to include completion practices, production and injection systems and equipment, production logging and water/gas shutoff techniques and other workovers.• Demonstrated ability in determining customer needs, educating customer on solutions, and monitoring progress of initiatives and activities.• Proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships and personal networks.• Open, honest and effective communication skills. • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with others in a multifunctional, global team environment.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: In addition to the required qualifications, the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:• A Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum or Reservoir Engineering.NOTE: Resumes submitted in response to this job opening may be reviewed and processed for Chevron by independent service partners.Chevron is continuously seeking qualified applicants for these positions in many geographic locations.
