Principal Design Engineer:Responsible for developing, modifying, implementing and supporting IV disposable products that function within the Alaris product families through adherence to established design control processes and good engineering practices.  Solves technical problems using engineering and statistical techniques.  Interfaces with customers and suppliers on high-volume disposable medical device manufacture.With an in-depth understanding of ALARIS disposable products, makes design changes to existing products, ensuring compatibility through appropriate testing.  Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require the investigation of several variables.  Provides engineering and technical support to production with respect to product specifications and requirements.  Guides the successful completion of major programs or projects.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to effectively present information to top management.  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.Superior knowledge of plastics and elastomers used with disposable medical devices.  Understands material properties, and works closely with resin manufacturers and processors such as injection molding & extrusion suppliers.  Possesses superior understanding of assembly methods.  Understands the effects of different sterilization methods on materials.  Understands the chemical and biological requirements and testing for selected materials.  Acts as a resource for others.Candidate needs an understanding of disposable medical devices and high-volume manufacture.  Drives to improve manufacturing and engineering metrics and meet or exceed goals.  Applies knowledge of Kaizen & six sigma principles.  Proficient with DFMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly).  Has advanced working knowledge of regulatory environment for disposable medical devices.  Works with Regulatory and supports data necessary for submissions.  Acts as a resource for others.Expert ability to test, analyze, and solve technical problems.  Very good understanding of plastic part design, injection molding, extrusion, and manufacturing processes.  Can sponsor K-T problem solving sessions.  Acts as resource for others.  Has superior ability to utilize engineering and statistical tools to design experiments.  Can apply fluid dynamics principles to project work.  Fluent with Stat-Graphics or Mini-Tab.  Acts as a resource for others.Will develop and execute V & V plans.  Sponsors QSP-400 activities.  Acts as a consulting resource and mentor to others. Has superior ability to execute projects with adherence to schedule, quality and cost.  Strong working knowledge of MS Project and resource balancing techniques.  Strong working knowledge of ERP.  Is able to manage complex 3 phase projects.  Has superior ability to interface with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.  Ability to supervise activities of more junior engineers.
