Principal Engineer 1 - Software

Its broadband satellite products are based on the IPoS (IP over Satellite) global standard, approved by the TIA, ETSI, and ITU standards organizations.*Please no entry level applicants*JOB DETAILS:Software feature development and maintenance, low level software debug on new terminal hardware and launch support of broadband satellite terminals. Specific job duties include but are not limited to: 1) Support the successful implementation of ST development (hardware, firmware, software and test/integration) ensuring that the implementation follows the system design.2) Be responsible for consistent definition of features on a system wide basis. Resolve inter-segment design issues as required to benefit of entire system.3) Debugging of existing software problems to determine the exact nature of the defect in the software baseline.4) Implementation and testing of fixes for analyzed problems ensuring that the ST software is tested sufficiently prior to release to System Test.5) Development of scripts and programs that may be necessary to support the test and debug activities 6) Executing formal test cases on the software system.7) Update design and user documentation as required.8) Lead development and completion of system design documentation for features selected as candidates for development.9) Work with the rest of the team to ensure that project schedules are met. In the event of schedule variances, work to minimize the impact of the delay.10) Become a system expert on the integration of ST hardware and software (i.e. how the terminal hardware and software work together).This activity could include supporting new feature proposals, supporting technology or component acquisition decisions through to solving critical integration issues. 11) Mentor and coach members of the team as required in debugging and integration techniques.12) Ensure that all project decisions and solutions provided are documented in a manner consistent with project and company standards. This task may include creating documents from time to time to capture ad-hoc investigations. QualificationsMUST HAVE:1) Excellent knowledge of C++ and Object Oriented design. 2) Developed software for at least 10 years using C++ outside of school in a professional software development environment.3) Understanding of real-time software development and experience with multiple RTOS (VxWorks, PSOS etc), queues, interrupts, timers and techniques of inter-task communication.4) At least 5 years of experience in debugging large (250,000 LOC +) software systems5) Experience with a source code control system6) Excellent oral and written communication skills LIKE TO HAVE:1) Experience of telecommunications systems especially satellite related3) Experience using Clearcase configuration control system.4) Experience of the complete software lifecycle including product launches5) Motivated team player, takes direction well, flexible, quick learner, detail oriented, ability to follow defined process etc.6) Experience testing and integrating large software systems.Hughes is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.For more information about Hughes products and services, please visit www.hughes.com CONTACT INFORMATIONRef ID: 2715BR
