Orbital Transportation Management Systems located in Columbia, Maryland is a division of Orbital Sciences Corporation.Orbital TMS is the country's leading supplier of satellite-based fleet management and passenger information systems for the expanding Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) market. To provide the highest quality and reliability, we design, develop and produce our own CAD/AVL software, communications protocol software, and in-vehicle equipment.We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join the TMS software engineering team. This position performs system and subsystem definition, preliminary and detailed design, design implementation, and subsystem and system integration and test for a system. In this role you will participate in software requirement review, preliminary and critical design, integration readiness review and software acceptance review. You will act as technical lead for pre-proposal, proposal and existing program efforts. You will brief customers on company capabilities, and you will plan subsystem work packages and then manage the activities to the programs cost, schedule and technical requirements.This developer will be involved in all phases of the software development life cycle, deployment, and support for TMS products. Specific responsibilities of this role will be core enhancement and evolution of core CAD/AVL products. This person will have excellent communication skills and will interface on a regular basis with other developers, system engineers and customers as appropriate and required.The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:- Programming Languages: C, C++, SQL- Operating Systems: Windows, UnixEOE/M/F/D/V Minimum Qualifications/Education/Experience (or Equivalent Combination of Experience and Education):- Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science - 10+ years of software development experience.
