Description:This position in the Engineering, Public Projects Group supports the review, planning, and implementation of Public Projects related to highway rail grade crossings and other types of projects involving state and local governments and developers. Safety is a primary focus of the Public Projects Group.Public Projects involves a wide variety of engineering and construction projects to improve communities, the safety of railroad operations and the safety of the general public in the vicinity of CSXT operations. Projects include interaction with public officials, engineering and planning companies, and many different groups within CSXT. General Engineering Consultants (GEC) and Signal Engineering Consultants (SEC) also provide engineering services and representation for CSXT related to Public Projects. Application engineering requires training with CSXT personnel and major suppliers on the specifics of CSXT application standards and the features of available products. Duties may include, but are not limited to:Supporting the CSXT review and processing of DOT and other agency requests for projects. Managing and reporting on consultant and supplier delivery of services, and implementing corrective actions necessary to completing projects in a safe, timely, and efficient manner. Supporting the CSXT identification, planning and implementation of public crossing closures working with Public Affairs and Safety. Supporting the review and implementation of crossing surface and warning system equipment standard changes. Supporting the preparation and evaluation of requests for proposals for warning system material and application engineering services. Reviewing, documenting, recommending changes, training and implementing improved processes for Public Projects. A civil or electrical engineering degree and completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering examination is preferred.The ability to quickly learn CSXT systems and operations relating to Public Projects, including application engineering for highway-rail grade crossing warning systems in preparation for future advancements, is required.Proficiency in office software is required including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Skills in project and financial management software are a plus.This team requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, make quick decisions and function effectively under pressure. Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral for internal CSXT and external communication including public officials.
