Product Design Engineer

As a worldwide leader in seating for over 50 years, H.O. Bostrom produces seats and seating accessories for off-highway, specialized on-highway, industrial, healthcare, marine and railroad industries. We provide both original equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket with the most advanced seating in the industry. Our product design team uses SolidWorks and Pro-Engineer CAD systems to create designs with optimal versatility, comfort and quality.We are looking for an experienced design engineer who thrives in an environment that allows for the individual to take on full product design and project management responsibilities - from design conception through final production. Direct the work of our CAD staff during your project as well. In addition, provide technical support to the fabricators, welders and assemblers. Assure final product quality through a commitment to high quality and accurate designs, bills of materials, work instructions, timely support and finished product audits.  This position reports to the VP of Sales and Engineering.Primary ResponsibilitiesPlan and execute all activities required for new product development with minimal supervision.Work closely with customers and sales team to define new product requirements.Collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure designs are robust and cost effective.Lead design team in the development of new products that meet customer specifications.Use Solidworks 3D CAD to generate models and drawings of new components and assemblies.Ensure all design activities follow procedures that are part of the H. O. Bostrom Quality System.Keep organized documentation of all new and existing products.Develop test plans and document testing in accordance with recognized standards.Develop quality standards for new components and assemblies.Create bill of materials & routings for entry into ERP System.Facilitate pilot runs and assess need for design changes after product release.Execute changes using change order process.Implement cost reduction initiatives to save material and labor costs.Attend technical meetings to report on project status.Secondary ResponsibilitiesAssist purchasing with supplier selection and new supplier evaluation.Assist industrial engineering with making additional manufacturing aids.Provide manufacturing support for existing products.Provide application support to sales people.Review bills of material for completeness and accuracy.Process costing requests for new products.Represent the department at Quality System Audits.Facilitate weekly staff meeting on rotating basis.Successful candidate will have:Bachelor of Science in Mechanical EngineeringMinimum of 3 years of project management experience within a manufacturing environment.3D CAD proficiency, Solidworks preferred.Experience working within cross functional teams.Working knowledge of lean manufacturing practices.Design experience with sheet-metal, tubing, welded assemblies, and molded plastics.Experience with Microsoft Office applications and ERP/MRP software.Experience working in a company with certified quality system is preferred.A background in the design of seating products would be a definite plus.This is an outstanding opportunity to become a high-visibility player within a very employee-oriented, dynamic, and growing organization.
