PROGRAM ENGINEER

 

The Austal Group, world leaders in the design and manufacture of aluminum fast ferries, cruise boats, luxury yachts and military vessels, is pleased to offer exciting opportunities for qualified professionals to join the Austal USA Design Department. This opportunity may include the opportunity to travel to Austal’s Australian facility for periods of approximately 12 months.  This position is located at the Austal facility in Mobile, Alabama.  Our Design Department is undergoing tremendous growth in all disciplines to support ongoing projects as well as the transfer of detailed design from Australia to Austal USA.

 

As an integral part of an experienced Design Team, you will manage the project design process through detail design and commissioning.  In addition you will communicate daily with senior management, design coordinators, designers, engineers, production work force, program office, and the client.

 

Job Requirements:Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.Experience in managing large design projects.Minimum of 7 years in ship design and construction experience, including practical knowledge of shipyard construction methods and details.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Understanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlines. Experience involving interaction with Production, multiple design teams from several companies, customer representation and equipment manufacturers. Computer literate and familiar with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products. Posses a thorough knowledge of ship and propulsion systems.Knowledge of Regulatory Authorities (ABS, MIL, NVR, HSC, HSNC, DNV, USCG, IMO, IEEE, NEC, GL, etc.).Experience in the construction of high speed aluminum vessels would be advantageous. Knowledge of modular construction methods would be advantageous.Experience in design and construction of US Navy vessels would be advantageous.Understanding of shock design would be advantageous.
