Program/Portfolio Manager

Program Manager (high-tech)Location:  Sunnyvale, CA Reporting to the Manager of Program Management Responsibilities:·   Facilitation of strategic objectives across business partners. ·   Improve alignment between strategy planning and business units; ·   Strengthen governance; portfolio prioritization, management and optimization, resource planning and executive reporting. ·   Daily activities include managing, monitoring and coordinating products and feature sets. ·   Function as the single point of contact for assigned product/projects and keep the cross functional (hardware, platform and software engineering) product teams on task and on target. ·   Work with Engineering, Product Management, Network Operations, QA, Marketing and Customer Service Operations teams to ensure a smooth and seamless release of product lines. ·   Coordinate and drive complex technical software projects to successful completion.·   Driving cross-functional team deliverables and schedules, hitting target milestones, managing assigned projects according to plan, driving the core (management) team, ·   Develop aggressive, but realistic, schedules and communicate/drive them effectively throughout the organization. ·   Manage multiple projects concurrently and supply regular status to management. ·   Interface and work effectively and proactively with all cross-functional groups including engineering, technical services, marketing, sales, manufacturing, quality assurance, product planning, and technical documentation. ·   Support products after their initial launch (i.e. customer support, field issues, competitive analysis, cost reduction, product updates, feature requests, etc.) ·   Authoring and managing the project schedule inclusive of project resource coordination, ·   Working with engineers and engineering management on scoping and estimating, ·   Ensuring that all stakeholders are kept fully informed of project status and progress; and collaborating closely with product managers during the complete product development lifecycle. ·   Leads and manages change request process. ·   Keeps management team apprised of impacts of changes to capacity plans and roadmap  ·   Managing open issues and working cross-functionally to determine remedies as necessary ·   Managing the product QA process, ensuring quality of product releases ·   Acting as an advocate for internal customers throughout all stages of a project ·   Providing weekly status updates on all projects ·   Communicating and managing priorities with development teams ·   Proven history of being able to adapt to and manage change, whereby developing creative solutions and dealing effectively with unknown and unanticipated situations.  Requirements: ·   Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or other Engineering discipline. MBA or MS in engineering discipline a significant plus. ·   5+ years of experience as a Project/Program Manager in a Software based company. ·   3+ years demonstrated experience manage high level portfolio/programs. ·   In-depth knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and Projects, and IBM Rationale. ·   Proven ability to distill product requirements into actionable items for the Engineering and Manufacturing teams. ·   Proven experience releasing software products to market successfully. ·   Full understanding of the development lifecycle, as well as support process for software/hardware products. ·   Strong organizational and project management skills. ·   Ability to develop and monitor project schedules and identify timelines. ·   Experience managing multiple projects with competing priorities. ·   Ability to understand technical subjects and emerging technologies and relevance to the marketplace, a product management background a significant plus. ·   Ability to interact with diverse groups of technical and non-technical people. ·   Must be able to communicate with senior executives internally and externally. ·   Effective use of reading, writing, oral communications skills, presentation techniques, meeting mechanics, and teambuilding techniques. ·   Must have the ability to manage Technical Software Teams in an exciting dynamic environment.
