Project Controls Analyst

 

The Bettis Laboratory has developed advanced Naval nuclear propulsion technology and provided technical support during the construction, operation, and maintenance of Naval nuclear propulsion plants for more than 50 years.  Bettis designed reactor plants for the first nuclear-powered submarines (USS NAUTILUS) and aircraft carrier (USS ENTERPRISE), all of the Nimitz class aircraft carriers, and the USS SEAWOLF.  A major initiative for the Laboratory is the design of nuclear-powered propulsion plants and electrical power systems for the next class of U.S. Navy aircraft carriers.  The Laboratory’s main sites are located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Idaho Falls, Idaho.  Other locations where Bettis provides support include Charleston, South Carolina, and shipyards located in Groton, Connecticut and Newport News, Virginia.  The Bettis Laboratory is operated for the Department of Energy by Bechtel Bettis, Inc.

 

Bettis’ responsibilities for nuclear propulsion include research and development, design, testing, training, new construction and operational support, and the examination and disposal of expended reactors.  This “cradle-to-grave” responsibility provides the opportunity for diverse and challenging work assignments.

 

Location:  This position will be at the main site, located near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Responsibilities:

Prepare and follow cost/schedules for maintenance and construction work efforts.  Participate in developing and presenting training classes on designated subject and on the job training programs.  Assists in the development and support of project trending and analysis.  Maintain and coordinate the commitment control, technical proposal cost control, cost reduction and audit programs, material and subcontract reviews, and budget expense functions.  Gather information and prepare reports and analysis of a narrative, graphic or statistical nature.  Gather information and prepare forecasts for capital equipment, personnel and space requirements.  Attend administrative meetings on behalf of the Manager and serve as liaison with other organizations.  Assist management with the development of yearly objectives.  Follow office rearrangement work from inception through completion by preparing detailed design drawings, cost estimates, standard specifications and follow documents.  Follow the execution of rearrangement work by in house craft personnel or subcontractor utilizing Project Management tools and practices.  Perform special administrative duties as assigned by management.

 

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in any discipline.

 

Experience Requirements:

Requires five years experience in a professional position with extensive administrative experience.  Experience in performing statistical analysis, schedule monitoring, report writing, and computer operations.  Skilled in understanding technical processes, engineering drawings, quantity determinations, and mathematical and financial reports.  Knowledge in the use of computers for executing work processes including proficiency in Microsoft Project.  Skilled in oral and written communications.  Demonstrates an intermediate level understanding of Project Control general technical skills.

 

Knowledge of engineering and construction management customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
