Project Manager/Senior Engineer – Marine Structures and Marchinery & Systems – Life Cycle Services

General Summary

The Project Manager/Senior Engineer has overall responsibility for the technical, budget, schedule administrative and financial execution of individual projects. The PM/Senior Engineer administratively reports to Director of Marine Life Cycle Services. The PM/Senior Engineer acts independently as the engineer in responsible charge and also as the manager with responsibility for financial performance on assigned projects. The Senior Engineer may be assigned to several projects concurrently and may also be assigned to perform specific marketing related functions including presentation of company qualifications for project opportunities and preparation of proposals. The Senior Engineer has both technical and management responsibilities. Projects are typically executed on an independent basis, with assistance by assigned staff, though subject to independent quality assurance and financial/management performance audits.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (PDR)

Responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating all Marine Life Cycle Services related to Hull structures. Responsible for the day to day operations of the HIMP (Hull Inspection and Maintenance Program) . Responsible, for monitoring progress of all projects related to HIMP, for both engineering and survey, relative to actual time expended, fees invoiced and expenses incurred versus those budgeted. Coordinate the development into practical applications of research and development projects derived from ABS Corporate Technology Group, including Hull Integrity Programs, Risk Management, Marine Incident Investigation, Condition Assessment for marine structures, among others) Responsible for monitoring project accounts receivable concerning the client’s account and working with client to maintain timely payment: Responsible for working with other ABS /ABSC in relation to coordinate production activity of HIMP related work,including modeling, training, engineering, planning and execution. Acts as a professional specialist for the project in the application of related rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles and processes. Recommends new approaches to problems encountered. Recommends changes in methods, procedures or design where necessary. Prepares technically accurate and timely reports related to the project. Monitors simultaneous projects to ensure maintenance of quality, content, consistency and continuity of all work performed. Provides supervision, guidance and training to lower level engineers and surveyors. Promotes the services and capabilities of ABS to present and potential customers Stays actively informed concerning technical, business and management developments affecting present and potential customers and communicates this information promptly to the appropriate senior level mangers. Maintains files in an orderly and up-to-date manner in area of responsibility.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required (KSAR)

The following list is generally applicable to all Senior Engineers. Bachelors of Science degree in Naval Architecture /Marine Engineering/Marine Systems / structural engineering (or recognized equivalent) and at least eight years of experience within the maritime industry Ability to speak and write English fluently. Ability to organize, plan, monitor and control project contractual requirements, budgets, schedules and technical work. Ability to utilize basic personal computer applications including spread sheets, word processors, email, and internet browsers. Ability to communicate technical aspects of projects and of work assignments to peers, subordinates and clients. Ability to direct the execution of complex projects.
