R&D Engineer Req. # 61665Position Description Qualified candidates provides engineering support for new product design and development, existing product modifications, and/or process design, development and optimization and performance evaluation. Responsibilities include fabrication, testing and documentation of products and processes. Provides assistance to project teams by developing test protocols, technical methods, test reports and resourcing subcontractor contacts. Coordinates and plans testing and documentation requirements. Provides engineering and technical support to other functional areas of the Company as required. Position Responsibilities Main Job Duties/Responsibilities• Provides engineering support for new product design and development, existing product modifications, and/or process design, development and improvement and performance evaluation. • Develops and tests prototypes from design specifications, defines processes to properly make and assemble the product and optimizes process. • Determines realistic start and finish dates for action items imperative to project completion on project schedule and submits to project team leader. Updates project schedule as required. • Provides project leader with a broad overview of potentially conflicting resource needs, availability or limitations, in advance of issues, to minimize schedule deviations. • Develops product and process verification and validation, test protocols and reports in compliance with design control requirements. Reviews protocols and reports with management of Quality Control, RD&E, and Regulatory Affairs/Quality Assurance. • Provides test reports, drawings, and other requirements to RA necessary for repairing regulatory notifications and submissions [510(k)s and PMAs and technical files] for domestic and international approvals as required. • Writes technical justifications for product design or process selection or modification to project leader. • Analyzes technical data and trends and reports information about new or competitive products to appropriate personnel, as assigned. • Identifies areas for improvement of manufacturing and lab tooling and technical processes in all project phases and recommends changes to appropriate management. Provides production line support when required. • Provides technical training for appropriate Lab and Production personnel as appropriate. Provides process and systems training to other functional areas as necessary. • Resources and identifies process, equipment and lab service subcontractors. Contacts subcontractors to research capabilities in meeting solutions. Provides recommendations to project leader for disposition. • Identifies safety issues in the immediate work environment and other work areas and recommends solutions for improvement. • Reviews appropriate technical literature for necessary background on specific assignments. • Other non-routine duties as assigned by Supervisor. • Wears personal protective equipment as required. • Ensures all activities are in compliance with Quality System requirements. Basic Qualifications Requirements: • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering • 5+ years of related experience. • A thorough understanding of the design of mechanical components & assemblies. • A good understanding of electromechanical & electronic devices & their applications, an understanding of statistical methods, & ability to plan & implement projects from concept to completion. • Knowledge of metal & plastic design requirements & fabrication techniques is required. Ability to develop test methodologies is required. • AutoCAD experience required • Working knowledge of FDA QSRs and ISO guidelines. Desired/Preferred Qualifications • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering • 1-2 years experience in the medical device industry preferred.
