Qualifications:

POSITION SUMMARY: Saint-Gobain High Performance Materials is actively seeking a Research Engineer to support the development of high performance polymer composites at the Northboro R&D center. The candidate will be working with 1 or more project managers in the Polymer Science Group to understand formulations & synthesis of new materials & processes as well as their structure property relationships.The candidate will work with several technologies (such as functional fillers, in-situ polymerization, novel processing technology, structure/properties relationship) to control or enhance the mechanical, electrical, optical, chemical, or physical properties of high performance polymers.The candidate will work in a team environment. The candidate must be hands on, and is expected to work in a safe manner consistent with good laboratory practice and in compliance with company safety policies and procedures. The candidate will also be responsible for writing technical reports, and presenting the results at technical review meetings.COMPETENCIES: Interested candidates should possess a Bachelor or Master degree in Materials Science and Engineering (or equivalent), at least 1 year R&D experience in performing lab experiments and utilizing various analytical techniques to obtain key results. Some knowledge of polymer science and inorganic materials such as fillers will be a plus.The candidate should have good organizational skills, good problem-solving skills, and excellent laboratory practices. Attention to detail and follow-through are critically important to the incumbent’s success. Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with various groups are required.
