Residency Staff Engineer #09843

VDOT is seeking two separate Residency Staff Engineers for vacancies in the Harrisonburg and Luray Residencies. The selected candidates will support engineering activities within their assigned area Residency (Harrisonburg or Luray), serving as the responsible charge for land development and subdivision programs.



Specific duties include:
-Assist in the coordination of local land development programs to anticipate future roadway improvements based on development trends
-Review, modification and approval of development plans which includes drainage, roadway geometrics, materials and traffic impact analyses
-Communicate with developers, consultant engineers, county and VDOT staff
-Program engineering guidance and/or supervision of technical staff  

 

To be competitive, candidates should possess the following:
-PE license required or Exemption by Code until July 1, 2010.
-Knowledge of highway engineering principles, policies and practices;
-Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, with a variety of individuals including staff, public officials and the general public;
-Considerable knowledge of roadway design, drainage, traffic engineering, transportation planning and land development principles;
-Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles to resolve technical issues/problems;
-Ability to provide guidance or general supervision to technical staff.  

-Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or related engineering discipline preferred.  

 

DMV/Criminal Background check is required.
