Title: Server Engineer

Responsibilities:  Works with minimal guidance to provide support for the installation and maintenance of the company’s infrastructure as well as the day-to-day support of all standard server hardware and software and the production network.

Primary Duties: Regularly serve as a technical resource for others within the organization. Configure, install & maintain all standard server / pc hardware, software and network operating systems. Perform LAN administration, including data management, performance tuning and regular system maintenance of production network servers. Assist Mgr to streamline daily support procedures. Assist with planning and implementation of new releases of operating systems including patches as instructed by mgr. Demonstrate strong commitment and reliability to carry pager and respond quickly. Provide input on planning for future projects. Document changes in procedures and in automation of both daily support and maintenance of systems. Assume ownership, as assigned, of the whole or part of ongoing projects. Gain experience, understanding, and expertise necessary to complete assigned tasks. Attend ongoing training sessions to achieve level of technical skill needed to solve more complex problems. Demonstrate ability to research and resolve customer issues in a timely and accurate manner with minimal guidance. Provide regular status and progress towards milestones with one’s manager. Become familiar with industry developments via trade journals, conferences, or educational opportunities.

Distinguishing Characteristics of Position: Demonstrate a depth of skill in maintaining and repairing servers and LAN technologies. Minimal supervision in regards to project activity. Activities often involve increasingly complex and challenging assignments.

Experience (minimal): Position requires B.S. in Computer Science/related field or equivalent technical training and work experience. Should have several years of hands on experience. A strong knowledge of Server hardware, Microsoft Operating systems, Citrix Presentation Server and Windows Domains a must. Experience with VMWARE GSX & ESX versions a strong plus.
