SR. STRUCTURAL ENGINEER ESG

Senior Structural Engineer ESG   SUMMARY: This position provides technical support within the Engineering Services Group in Pittsburgh, PA. Primary activities will be to provide industrial engineering for projects with public and private clients. However, the candidate may be requested to support other projects/programs that are also managed and supported within this department and the Pittsburgh office. Day-to-day activities will be directed by the Engineering Services Group Manager.    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:   ·  Provide support to on-going and new projects related to structural engineering. Must be experienced in interfacing with state and local agencies as well as community boards for project planning. ·  Plans and schedules detailed phases of technical work in a part of a major project or in a total project of complex scope. Must be able to function with little direction to meet project goals. Must be able to take conceptual direction for project tasks and developed detail plans to complete task. ·  Competent to serve as a project manager on design projects. ·  Experienced at taking structural design projects from inception (e.g., proposal preparation) through design, construction and to completion. ·  Prepare project proposals and successfully complete project in accordance with the proposal schedule and budget. ·  Provide direction to staff personnel to complete project tasks and also mentor junior level technical support personnel. ·  Interface with Client Project Managers, government regulators, other contractors and other representatives.     QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.   EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in engineering required. Minimum of fifteen years of related experience is required. Candidates must have experience providing strong technical direction/support for structural projects.   OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Candidates must be self-motivated, creative and have strong organizational, inter-personal communication, writing and presentation skills.   Computer skills must include Word and Excel.  The proficient with the use of STAAD computer program for structural design is strongly desired.   CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Professional Registration (e.g., P.E.) is required.    COMMUNICATION SKILLS: The ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. The ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. The ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and clients.   REASONING ABILITY: The ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of structural variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.   MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: The ability toperform routine engineering design calculations. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry.   PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 80 pounds. The employee must regularly operate a computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, the ability to adjust focus and accurately judge distances. The employee may periodically be expected to participate in field work, which requires the ability to walk reasonable distances and climb ladders and stairs. Field work will require the use of standard safety equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats and steel toed shoes.     WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level is usually moderate in the primary work environment i.e., a typical business office with computers, printers, and light pedestrian traffic. When performing field work, the employee will be near moving equipment and machinery and be subject to the ambient environment in those areas. Occasionally work assignments may require the employee to travel via vehicle or aircraft.
