SYSTEMS ENGINEER

PURVIS Systems, a privately held company with over 30 years experience, provides engineering services and support for mission critical systems to the .  We are seeking a new position to support our engineering team.  This position will work on-site at our College Point location, work directly for our Engineering Department, located in Rhode Island.

 

Qualifications:Bachelor or Masters of Science in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.  Candidate must have a minimum of 6 years of industry experience. Experience in developing applications in C or C++ would be a plus.The candidate must exhibit excellent design and architectural skills, written, and oral communication skills. The candidate must be able to work independently and with the team.

Description of Work:  The candidate will act as a liaison between engineering and the field service organization to assist in installing, troubleshooting and managing large scale, multi-computer systems. The candidate must have excellent communication skills and will be required to work with field service personnel as well as aid in fault isolation and relay results/symptoms to engineering.

 

Success in this position requires effective interpersonal skills and communications skills, as the position requires frequent interaction with users, customers and managers. 

 

The ideal candidate will have proven experience with the following:Administration of Linux, Unix and Windows servers.Technologies such as clustering, redundant system design and high availability.Design, Management and troubleshooting of LAN and WAN networks.Software development.Analog and digital hardware design and troubleshooting.

Special Skills and Working Environment Required:  Ability to support 24/7/365 operation by phone and on-site is required.

 

Cisco certification and Microsoft server administration are a plus.

Familiarity in troubleshooting telephone, such as PBXs, CSUs and T1 circuits is also a plus.
