Safety Engineer / Technologist

This position may have incumbents performing duties at levels E3, E4, E5, or E6. Duties at each level vary in complexity, technicality, level of responsibility and supervision. At a minimum, incumbents at each level must be certified as an Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) or possess a bachelors degree in a related field. Certification as a Safety Professional is highly desirable. As a minimum, the incumbents performing duties at any level must demonstrate ability to work with people of varied backgrounds and myriad objectives, and the ability to reach consensus on complex issues in a timely and effective manner. Must be U.S. Citizen.In addition, incumbents performing duties at each level must possess the following respective qualifications:Level E3 (Safety Engineer/Technologist)Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering or related field and 2 years related work experience OR 10 years equivalent specialized training and directly related work experience with an OHST OR an accredited Safety Professional Certification (CSP) and 5 years experience working in safety OR a Master's Degree in Safety Engineering or a related technical field.Level E4 (Senior Safety Engineer/Technologist)Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering or related field and 4 years related work experience OR 12 years equivalent specialized training and directly related work experience OR an accredited Safety Professional Certification (CSP) and 7 years experience working in safety OR a Master's Degree in Safety Engineering and 2 years related work experience OR a Ph.D. in Safety Engineering.Level E5 (Principle Safety Engineer/Technologist)Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering or related field and 6 years related work experience OR 14 years equivalent specialized training and directly related work experience OR an accredited Safety Professional Certification (CSP) and 9 years experience working in safety OR a Master's Degree in Safety Engineering and 4 years related work experience OR a Ph.D. in Safety Engineering and 2 years related work experience.Level E6 (Staff Safety Engineer)Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering or related field and 8 years related work experience OR a Master's Degree in Safety Engineering and 6 years related work experience OR a Ph.D. in Safety Engineering and 4 years related work experience. A CSP or CIH certification is required and may be used to fulfill two of the years of work experience required for this position.Must be able to acknowledge and respond to flashing lights and sirens and be able to don a protective mask and evacuate up to 2 miles in an expeditious manner.Wage levels: E3-E6 Job Description : Performs a combination of duties necessary to provide Safety Engineering support as required to maintain federal, state, local acts, regulations, laws, and rulings and designed operational and configuration parameters. Coordinates safe optimal utilization of machines and systems to ensure that equipment is designed, installed, and operated safely, and in accordance with internal (EG&G) and external (Government) customer requirements. Duties include safety review and analysis of process designs or modification of systems, instruments, controls, process elements, utilities, support subsystems, fire protection, mechanical, hydraulic, and heat transfer systems. Also identifies potential areas for improvement, supports unscheduled and routine maintenance, and interprets specifications and technical requirements. : :
