Section Leader/Manager

Ricardo is a world leading provider of technology, product innovation, engineering solutions and strategic consulting to the world’s automotive industries with a network of technical centers in the UK, North America, Germany and the Czech Republic employing over 1750 employees. Ricardo Powertrain Development Department is responsible for combustion, performance, emissions & fuel economy testing of engines as well as hybrid/battery systems. Additionally, powertrain development team members provide offsite consulting as well as project leadership.

 

We are seeking a Section Leader/Manager to join our current team at our technical center in Van Buren Township, MI.

  Powertrain Development VACANCY – Overview

 

The role will require significant mutli-tasking skills. Key responsibilities are supervision of project engineers, technicians and test services as well as maintenance of testing equipment. A wide range of projects for customers in automotive, generation and heavy duty engine markets will be undertaken. There is a possibility that oversees travel will be required from time to time to visit or work at client sites as well as other Ricardo sites. 

 

Your main task responsibilities would include:

 

· Engineering Supervision :Career planningData analysis and reporting supervisionProject leadershipDevelopment and execution of training materialGeneral testing troubleshooting assistanceDatabase supervisionResearch program creation & execution supervision

· Technician Supervision :

o Career planning

o Organization of resource allocation

o Development and execution of training material

o Testing process improvement action implementation

o Testing equipment troubleshooting assistance

· Test Services Supervision :

o Career planning

o Supervision of testing equipment repairs

o Development and execution of training material

o Calibration database supervision

o Testing equipment troubleshooting assistance

o Liaison between group and internal customers

· Facility/Equipment  Responsibilities :

o Equipment utilization planning

o Capital planning and project execution supervision

o Equipment improvements

o Facilty 5s improvements

o Equipment spares organization and procurement

o Preventative maintenance program supervision

o Responsible for maximizing uptime of all equipment

o Equipment repair supervision

o Facility general cleanliness responsibility

o Main contact for suppliers

· Reporting Responsibilities :

o Monthly reports on financial performance, utilization, proposal and research activity

o Monthly reports on equipment downtime

o Weekly reports on equipment and labor utilization

o Weekly update of test cell loading

o Weekly update of repair, calibration and test supplies indirect spending

· Financial Responsibilities  :

o Annual department budgets

o Profit & loss

o Test cell loading

o Equipment Repair costs

o Monthly forecasting of revenue, direct costs, indirect costs & gross margin

· Business Development Responsibilities :

o Providing facility tours

o Proposal creation (narratives and costs)

o Client meetings and presetations

o Presentation material creation

 Qualification required   

 BSE in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering are mandatoryEngineering Masters Degree or MBA are preferred

 

Professional and Personal Experience 

 

Management experience of engineers or technicians in a past role is a prerequisite. Strong ability to apply of fundamental engineering principles in troubleshooting exercises.  Relevant experience in the automotive engineering industry and in the field of performance, emissions, fuel economy & combustion analysis is essential.  Initiative and interpersonal skills are key, as are strong written communication, PC (MS Office & Project mandatory) and presentation skills.

 Technical task management of projectsLine management of engineers or techniciansManagement of equipment or facilities are preferred, though not mandatoryBroad engineering knowledge of powertrain systems and especially gasoline and diesel engines

· Supplier management

· Ability to coordinate and understand information from many groups

· Good project management skills

· Ability to perform well in high pressure situations

· Strong interpersonal skills with many different types of people and backgrounds mandatory
