Senior Designer

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM's mission by:

Preparing detail and layout drawings and sketches of the most unusual, complex, or original designs that require the application of theoretical and practical engineering knowledge Determining material needs and performing necessary calculations, using accepted formulas and references per company standards Ensuring overall consistency, quality and technical accuracy on design projects Regularly assigning tasks to lower-level design/drafting personnel Reviewing the work of subordinate personnel Providing senior technical guidance, direction, and overview Regularly interfacing with other departments, clients, vendors, and project engineers in order to support project production and to resolve conflicting priorities Participating in performance appraisal process by completing PFDFs Possibly performing periodic coaching and progress review sessions with employees, based on feedback provided by senior designers Establishing design criteria for all phases of a project that require the application of basic engineering principles, material properties, and a familiarity with construction, installation, and maintenance procedures Possibly establishing manpower requirements, man-hour estimates, and completion schedules Possibly participating in the development of design procedures to ensure quality of services provided to clients Possibly participating in the interviewing, selection, and training of new employees Supporting field assignments and leading field assignments as required

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Normally requires a high school graduate with vocational technical training in basic drafting technology and typically 20+ years' related experience (or equivalent working knowledge/experience), or a 2-year degree in drafting/design technology and 18+ years' related experience. Incumbent must demonstrate a sound understanding of design concepts with minimal engineering input and a proficiency in utilizing manual and computer-assisted techniques for difficult design applications. Must be capable of resolving employee issues, conflicting priorities, and potential budgetary problems effectively. Also, must be able to discuss complex technical problems fluently and communicate effectively with all levels of management, project, and client personnel
